* Intentions & Actual Follow Through.....NOT! *

I just read the newest Searchlights & Signal Flares on Tiny Lights - A Journal of Personal Narrative, and boy, do I feel foolish!! I wrote about "my intentions" of finishing my book by July 16th....uh, that's like 2 weeks from now. I also proudly wrote about my Countdown Widget....."Although seeing it makes me a bit nervous and wary of my ability, it also makes me strive even more to meet it." Uh, yeah! It made me more than "a bit" nervous. It made me crazy. It made me feel silly. It made me feel like a fraud. I knew I wasn't going to meet that deadline, but I also wouldn't allow myself to actually face my failure. I removed it sometime ago, obviously after I sent in that piece.

So, this particular post is mainly for anyone who happens to jump over to  my blog from the Tiny Lights site. I apologize if you wanted to see my cool widget. The fact is, it really was cool....but all it did was make me perspire!

"I love deadlines. I like the whoosing sound they make as they fly by." -- Douglas Adams

  1. Aww, Becky, there is not one thing wrong with setting goals. Nor having them be postponed a bit. Life happens!

    You are accomplishing so much, and I am very proud of you.

  3. my computer is now up and my goal was to get it fixed in 1 day vs almost a week. sometimes our goals we set has bumps either by ourselves or someone else. you have the guts to follow what you want to do so don't hit yourself with a time frame. you'll do it whenever. have a good day.

  4. Yep, that's me..popped on over here from Tiny Lights curious to see your countdown machine and felt a little relieved for your sake that you had taken the pressure off.

    Positive self talk, so to speak, is good, it really is, but telling ourselves the truth is an even finer art. So...you intend to finish and that is tremendous...one day at a time you do all that you can and then comes the day, God willing, that you lay down the pen and call it complete.

    Thank you for the Tiny Light's invitation to your blog. I'll pop around and read a bit more...

    It was my privilege to be in a writing group with Susan Bono in season's past. I don't live close by these days but generally enjoy the ever growing Tiny Lights.

    I have blogspots too...

  6. Becky, I think you are doing just fine. We all miss deadlines and take longer to get where we are heading than planned, but at least you are still going in the right direction. I love the quote at the end of this one. :)

  13. Becky, you make me laugh! I love how you "tell" on yourself. Don't worry about setting goals you later determine to be unrealistic. The important thing is that you HAVE goals, and you are achieving them!
