** I Could've Fallen Down the Steps! **

* This is my post for The Deja Vu Blogfest. It was originally posted in June 2010. Whether you've seen it before or not, I hope it makes you laugh! *

Yesterday was one of those (rare) days when I had a lot of energy. I did some laundry, whipped up some homemade (from a box) brownies, picked up clutter around the house, worked on my homemade birthday cards, stopped at the library to pick up a book, stopped at the post office to mail a package and got some stamps, etc..etc..!!  I LOVE those kinds of days, because they usually are few and far between. I just do not have a high energy level...never have, and never will....I guess.

Anyway....I told you all about that, so I can tell you all about this.

Because of my super energy yesterday, I was still in high gear after my husband had gone upstairs to bed. I made several trips up and down the stairs, returning things to where they belonged, etc. One of those times, as I walked up the steps, I carried a couple of folded t-shirts and was talking to our dog, Tiger, who faithfully followed me. Thinking my husband was probably still awake and watching TV in the bedroom, I was in my own little world...that is until I reached the first landing and saw something out of the corner of my eye. He was standing there, resting with his elbows on the railing, just waiting for me to look up and see him......and when I did..... he scared the absolute *%#$? out of me!!! I was SO mad at him... (because he scares me so many times by quietly coming up behind me, etc.)....I think I danced in place for a second or two, screamed, threw the t-shirts at him, and cussed like a sailor! Besides being scared within an inch of my life, what makes me the angriest is that he always acts so innocent!! He always says, "What? What did I do? I was just_______!  Just fill in the blanks...."Standing there, walking into the room, waiting for you", etc.

I would've loved to have seen the look on my face. Every time I think about it now, I start cracking up, which aggravated me at first....but still...in afterthought, it WAS hilarious! It makes me think of the scene below....... Ron's lucky I didn't react the way Ferris' sister did when the high school principal surprised her in the kitchen! I think it is THE funniest scene in the entire movie.

Please leave a comment and let me know if it made you laugh out loud, too!
AND, do you have friends or family members that enjoy scaring the heck out of you?? Or are YOU the one who does it?

  1. Hey, at least he's got some fun in him, right? And that's worth some annoyance...

    =)

PS. Mine is the same way...like an adolescent at times. Gotta love it!

  4. That is a funny scene from a very funny movie! I guess we don't have any scaring pranksters in my family. Your story is funny now, but I think I would have reacted the same way you did at the time. I don't like things or people suddenly jumping out at me or surprising me. HA! :)

  5. Hi Becky....I could just picture you going up the stairs with the t-shirts and your hubby scaring the wits out of you. Your post was even funnier than the movie clip. Thanks for sharing. Susan

  6. Oh, yes, that's a funny scene!
Both are, as I can totally imagine you being scared.

My fiancé does things like that too sometimes and he's a master at acting all innocent too :P

PS: I think the comment you left had some text missing or something, but yes, my six word story was the one I submitted to the contest too.
Thanks for directing me towards it :)

  8. Thanks for some great memories! My son used to LOVE to startle me when he was little! Hid in some of the weirdest places just so he could pop out. And I always loved that movie!!! For some reason, my favorite line: "Pucker up, Buttercup!"

  9. Hi Rose! Thanks! Yes, I agree...I think it's definitely a "male" thing, and it starts when they are boys!

Hi Daisy! Thanks. Yeah, I hate to be scared like that. I usually do not find it at all funny, either! My brother used to scare me, and the scars have never truly healed....snif, snif..as I dab a hankie to my eyes!!

Hi Susan. Thanks!! Your comment made me laugh, just picturing it all over again! I think if it would've been captured on video, we could win big bucks with it!

Hi Estrella! Sorry if my comment on your blog had some words missing, but yes, I understood then about your story! And GEE, thanks for the Blog Award! I'm pretty sure I haven't won one before!

HI Tammy! Thanks! What is it with the male hormones, anyway?? Geez,,,they don't know they could cause us to faint or something! :o

  10. I hate it when my hubby does things like that! Often he doesn't even mean to scare me, I'm just so lost in my thoughts I don't realize he's there. :)

  11. That's so funny because my daughter LOVES to scare her dad! It's so comical when he comes home. He checks around corners, looks in the shower etc. I mean it's like the Pink Panther movies with Peter Sellers when his servant was always sneaking up on him! Very funny!

  15. Hi Janel! That happens to me once in a while, too, but I swear Ron takes an evil delight in doing that on purpose to me, but then, of course, he's soooo innocent! :)

Hi Manuela! Thanks so much for stopping and commenting! What is it about some people that they like to scare others? They obviously think it's funny! I've tried to "get him back", once or twice, but it didn't work!

Hi Creative Grammie! Thanks! I'm glad my story made you laugh!! Laughter is a wonderful thing! :D

Hi Pat! Yes...MEN! That just reminded me of a story of mine....I have it saved on my computer somewhere...oh yeah...it'll be "in the book"!! Thanks for the reminder!!

Hi Nancy! Thanks! And yes, I've been having a great evening. I'm actually getting some REAL writing done tonight!! (not blog writing!) Yay!

  17. i amuse myself all the time, not by scaring anybody just by stupid things i do. and i have to laugh or else i would cry!

  18. My husband doesn't scare me on purpose, but if I am coming out of a room and he is coming in at the same time, it sometimes makes me jump, but, we both laugh about it and go on with whatever. However, when growing up, my brother was always trying to pull tricks on me and my sisters. If we happened to be asleep, and he woke up before us, he would pour a bit of cold water on us, Now that wakes you up real quick!

  19. I always accuse my husband of being an Indian (which he does have some Indian blood) and sneaking up on me! He can walk with more stealth and silence than anyone I know. Had to laugh at this.

    XO,

    Sheila :-)

  21. Hi Kathy! Yes, I think I get lost in my thoughts OFTEN! That's the mind of a writer, I guess...!! Plus the fact that when you're not expecting to see anyone anytime soon....Woooo-weeee! :)

Hi Gramma Ann! Oh my gosh...what a terrible thing for your brother to do!! BTW, I love your new profile photo! You look fabulous, dahhhhing!

Hey Magpie! Yep, that's how my husband is..and then says he didn't MEAN to scare me!! Accckk! :)

Hi Lizzie! Thanks! Nahhh, I went and picked up the t-shirts and refolded them for him! I'm just sweet that way!! :D

  23. Ha ha!! I bet your expression was priceless. My hubby loves to scare me, too, and he's darn good at it. When my son still lived at home they BOTH tried to "get" me. My son put a plastic cockroach at the bottom of the laundry basket once. I about came undone when I came across it....he and my husband still cackle about it!

  24. My grandson sneaks up upon me all the time and scares me - enough to have a heart attack!

Your husband loves you so much - how sweet,

  25. Ferris Bueller is a classic!

And of course, deep in a writing trance, I can get "got" b y just about anyone-including the dog.

Why do we ALWAYS yell when we get the stuffing scared out of us? You'd think we'd gasp or be shocked into silence-but, no. We scream a string of unladylike words and throw stuff at the offender. Or maybe that's just me.

  26. Hi Lisa! Thanks! What is it with men and boys??!! OMG...The fake bug would've really gotten me, too!! Acckkkk!!!

Hi Chatty! Yep, boys....it's the boys!!

Hey Miss Cathy C.!! Yeah, you gotta love Ferris and the gang! And you would've felt right at home if you were here the other night....with the screaming and the cussing and the throwing..etc..!! I told him he was lucky I wasn't holding any heavy ofjects, because it was a gut instinct to start throwing things at thim!! :D

  27. My husband just scared me and he's lucky I didn't have a knife in my hand (working in the kitchen). But I do it to him too, so... all's fair in love and war.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Hi Lynn! That's funny! I told Ron he was lucky I didn't have something heavy in my hands, because I think I would've thrown it, too....just out of instinct! :)

    Hi Becky,
I just found you and I think we're going to get along just fine!!!

this "husband scaring the crap out of wife" phenomena happens to me often. I blame the extra gentle husband feet and he blames me being lost in my thoughts. love getting lost in my thoughts..... love how loyal dogs are :) thanks for making me smile!

  32. This post made me laugh so hard!! Why is it that we get startled by our husbands when they are just standing there like that? Too funny!!

Thank you for sharing this and making me smile this morning :-)

  33. Oh yeah...I have a VERY high "startle rate". My heart feels like it jumps a foot in my chest. It actually hurts. You are just going to have to get even with him.

  35. Hah. I did laugh. Funny post Becky.

In my house, I'm the one who goes around scaring my husband. He says I "creep" around. He gets so mad, which only makes me want to laugh more.

  36. Yes, I did laugh at your homeade brownies (from a box) and your hubby's antics! My hubs did something like that once, and he got punched! (Not too hard, b/c I'd realized it was him, I was just ticked and angry and had to release it!). Nice to meet you. I'm number 33 on the deja vu tour!

  37. When I'm in my own world, I am easily scared like that.

  38. Funny story! I loved Ferris Bueller. Great quote - I laugh at myself all the time.

  39. I actually get really annoyed at people who purposely scare others. And like the Ferris clip, its a perfect way to get hurt because startled people often cannot control their reactions!

    Great re-post!

  40. I am very easy to startle, so this often happens to me at work, where we have a warren of hallways and cubicles. Sometimes I scare my supervisees to death when they inadvertently sneak up on me and I yowl unprofessionally. Great re-post!
