** This 'n That on a Thursday Afternoon **

Hot Fun in the Summertime!
Today has been a cloudy, sunny, rainy, sunny, humid, cloudy, hot, steamy kind of day, and all I can say is, "Thank goodness for air conditioning!" There's not a day that goes by in this kind of weather when I don't wonder how in the world we survived back in the 1950's when I was growing up. We lived in the same general vicinity that I live now....the humid St. Louis area....and all we had was a window fan in our tiny living room. I don't remember even having small fans in our bedrooms, although we may have. I always thought my parents weren't very smart because they always had the window fan facing out, pushing all the air outside! I think I managed to talk my dad into turning it once in awhile and have it blow on me, but obviously it didn't cool me off at all, since it was blowing hot air! And don't worry....I'm not going to make any silly jokes about "hot air" in my family!

(This fan looks just like the one we had. Photo courtesy: worthpoint.com)
My brother, Mike, and I used to amuse ourselves by yelling into the fan and making funny noises! Ah, the Good Old Days! Who needed video games and such? We had fun just hanging around with our family and friends....and using our imaginations. (Oh, and yes, we did at least have TV. All the shows were in black and white then.) Okay...I better quit, or I'll sound like I'm 100 years old!

Great News about Scott! Most of you are aware of the health issues my oldest son, Scott, has been dealing with the past couple of weeks. I'm happy to say that his last CT came back with good results and all seems to be fine now...finally! All he needs to do is start eating and gain back the 20 lbs that he lost! He's a slender guy in the first place, so he is really thin now. But, I'm sure a few of his favorite pizzas will help! Thanks so much to all of you who kept him in your thoughts and prayers.

Blog Highlight: You know I like to let you in on things I've discovered while blogging. My friend, Pat, over at Critter Alley is having a blog contest, with no entry fee, and the winner will receive $25.00 CASH! Wow! Jump on over to her blog and read all about it. Entries can be submitted until Monay, July 12th.
(As always, I'm not getting paid or gaining anything by posting info about this contest.)

I have two quotes to share today. I just couldn't make up my mind between them, so I decided to get a little wacky and post them both! Look out....I'm getting zany, wild and madcap!!

(Does this look like the photo of a normal woman?! Depends on what you consider normal....I must confess, it is I...wild and wacky Becky!)

  1. Oh, I'm sooo glad to hear about Scott being all better now! I'm sure he'll gain back the pounds he lost in no time with pizza :)

And the kind of weather you described at the beginning of your post is exactly the kind that gives me headaches, so I feel for you! Definitely a good thing to have AC and even better if you can bear it :) (I can't...)

  2. Great news about your now really skinny but healthy son! My husband lost 20 pounds once form being sick, and he gained it back very quickly once his appetite returned.

    I'm glad all is well.

    =)

    PS. Nice quotes, both!

  3. I can remember having one room air conditioner. On really hot nights we'd make our bed in the living room and sleep in perfect coolness!

Thanks for the mention of the Critter Alley contest! There's some terrific entries coming in!

  4. We had a window unit, but for some reason my mom would only turn it on when it was close to 100! Guess it was that era, huh? I laughed about talking into the fan! I guess we all did that. Also loved your picture!!! You crack me up!!!

  6. This steamy weather can make anybody look like your picture! At least we got some rain today. I actually walked around downtown sidewalk days in the rain, without an umbrella, because it felt good!

Glad to see Scott is doing better. We have some pizza places up here that could put those pounds back on in a few days. :)

  8. That is great news about your son. I'm sure he will gain back the weight and probably a few more pounds as well.

It is stinkin' hot here also. And I am so glad for the A/C. Where I grew up we didn't have the really bad humid weather, I didn't experience it really bad until I moved to Iowa.

I had to enlarge the picture, because I couldn't figure out what that gold thing was at the side of your head. I LOL when I saw it was a door knob. My eyesight isn't as good as it use to be.

  9. You look normal to me, Becky! :D

So glad to hear Scott is better!

I wonder how we managed without air conditioners as kids too. It was definitely a different world back then.

  12. Hi Estrella! Thanks so much for your thoughts and kind words about Scott! Yes, I'm sure he'll start to gain his weight back quickly!
And, again, I'm sorry about your headaches. I'm pretty sure my sinus headaches and migraines have a lot to do with the humidity here. And did you just say you can't take being in a/c? Gosh!

Hi Sue! Thanks very much! Glad you like the quotes, too!

Hi Pat K9! You're welcome for the blog shout out. And wow! You actually had at least ONE a/c unit?? Woo-hoo! :D

Hi Rose! Thanks for everything! Glad you had fun with the old fans, too!!

Hi Janel! Thanks!! I'll have to post a photo of Scott sometime after he gains some of weight back, I guess! Mmmm....pizza!! Me Like, Too!

Hey Chatty! Thanks for your kind words about Scott AND my silly picture!! What a great idea to have a grateful journal, and to include A/C! Oh yeah!

Hi Ann!! Oh, you made me laugh, too, about the door knob in the picture!! I started to explain about that, but I didn't really think most people would notice it! Good for you!! I took that picture, standing in the bathroom, in front of the mirror!

Hi Daisy! Thanks for thinking I look "normal"!! LOL
And thanks too, about Scott. Yep, it was definitely a different time back then.

Hey there Ms. Turtle Lady! Thanks so much!! You know I like being a wild and crazy kind of gal! :D

  20. Hi Marty! Thanks so much! It's taking me a long time to try and catch up on some blog reading! With my oldest son being ill for about 3 weeks, I've gotten way behind. (In case you haven't read about it...it's farther down in my blog...I think it starts around June 21st.)Anyway...I'll try to remember to give the "cloche" a try!
