* Nostalgic Sundays *

It's time for another Nostalgic Sunday.

This time of year when it begins to be a bit cooler and the sun sets earlier, I get in the mood for good, old-fashioned comfort food. (which is what Aunt Bee prepared every day, I think!) On Friday, I wrote about making meatloaf for Lynn's blog so what did I do today? Bought fresh ground meat! I'll be whipping up a meatloaf dinner today, complete with baked potatoes, and various veggies.
I also have a new chili recipe I'll make soon....in my crock pot. And I have a few casserole recipes to make and freeze for later. Yummy goodness! Mmmm. Is your mouth watering? Mine sure is.

I also have to mention the fabulous Andy Griffith. During my quick lunch today, the TV was on and I came across the movie: No Time for Sergeants. I only watched for about ten minutes, but during that short period of time, I laughed out loud at his backwoods, naive ways, especially when he described trying to take the reading test. There's no way I could explain it and do it justice, you'll just have to watch the movie sometime.

Also, Welcome to my newest follower, Jennifer Shirk. I hope you'll stop by often and always enjoy what you read and see! Thank you!

Andy Taylor: Opie! Time to come in, son.
Opie Taylor: Aw Pa, just a little while longer... please?
Andy Taylor: Well, OK.
[to Barney]
Andy Taylor: Daylight's precious when you're a youngin'

  1. Becky, I would have never put these concepts together for myself, but I think your picture of Andy Griffith, the comfort of meatloaf, and fall all go together so naturally.

Maybe that's why I love fall so much? Because it's comforting to me. I always associated it with the start of school, which I love.

    Thanks for the sensory connections.

  2. Good food, warmth, a fire in the fireplace, fresh coffee, a throw on the sofa ... Home is so comforting this time of year.

  3. I agree with Joanne. Now that autumn is fast approaching, home is, indeed, very welcome. Lamps on, scented candles burning, all nice and snug as a little bug in a rug! I love it!

  4. Hi Juliann~ Thank you very much for the comliments. I've always loved fall the best, too. AND I also loved school. Many times I walked to and from school and I loved shuffling leaves as I went along...ahhh, those were the days!

Hey Joanne~ So good to see you back again! I loved your comment. I feel warm every time I read it!

Hi Thisisme~ Oh yes, sounds wonderful. Wish I could visit you over there...across the pond! :)

  5. I was just saying this morning that it's soup season now. Although the thought of meatloaf is making my mouth water. Lots of warmth here to balance the cool wet that's outside my window this morning.

  6. ahhh... and to that I add football. love college football and my New Orleans Saints. I actually brought my crockpot out of hiding yesterday. Love the beginning of fall, the first fire (we had it last night). Love how cat and dog will snuggle close - just wish I could spend mid January, and all of February and March somewhere warm.

  7. Your meatloaf dinner sounds great, Becky! I love the Andy Griffith show. The humor in that has held up and stood the test of time for me. Enjoy your Sunday! :)

  8. My mom used to cook a roast every Sunday. I'm sure she didn't actually cook a roast during the summer months, but it seemed like EVERY Sunday. Roast, potatoes, carrots, onions, and biscuits on the side.

I will be brewing up a cauldron of chili this week. I never make it the same way twice, but I've had no complaints so far. We like it with garlic toast on the side.

  12. Hey, how'd you get that picture of my family around the dinner table? Wait, that's not us, that's what's usually on the t.v. when we sit down to eat. I say a day with Andy and Aunt Bea is a good day.

  14. Autumn itself is a comforting time for me--the scent of spices and pumpkin pies--I could go on and on!

We've been watching reruns of The Twilight Zone, and I spotted Ron Howard in one when he was even younger than his role of Opie!
