A Winner and Philosophy

* Today feels like Monday. The Ronald and I spent the weekend with friends in their lovely house on The Lake! Got home really late Sunday night, so I was draggin' yesterday. Today my inner motor will be chugging along until it hits high speed!

* The winner of my Give-Away from September 7th....is....drum roll, please!......Carol Kilgore, from Under the Tiki Hut! Carol, please send your address and I'll get your three books mailed right away. Congratulations and thanks for entering!

* Speaking of books, which leads to reading and writing....once again I've put my memoir on the back burner. I'm submitting to more anthologies and entering more contests. Doing so has once again helped with the enormous pressure I've subjected myself to, for so long. I'm also reading more, which I know helps my writing. Also, I will stop posting about whether my memoir is almost finished, partly finished, asking for title ideas, and anything else pertaining to it! Y'all are probably thinking, "Whew, thank goodness!" ☺

* My friend, S. and I ate Chinese for lunch on Saturday. My fortune cookie said: "Life to you is a bold adventure. You can expect greatness if you avoid the great mess!"

I like that philosophy. How about you?

"Eighty percent of success is showing up." -- Woody Allen

  1. Hi Becky,

I LOVE the new look of your blog ... very cute. That lady reminds me of you.

    Congrats to Carol!

I say, do what ever works and makes you happy. If there is so much resistance, maybe the timing just is not quite right for some reason. You'll get it done when you do. Maybe one of these other stories that you are writing is going to touch somebody who really needs it right now. Who knows ... but just keep following your heart.

Hope your week is as fun as your weekend was!

  2. You know, I think we're always having to re-think things and change our ways. I know I've had to do that with regard to blogging. Last week, I found myself getting discouraged about lack of blog traffic and wondering if I should try writing about other subjects to draw in more readers. Then my daughter reminded me of what I have often told her...isn't having a few regular blog readers who I am really connected to more important than having the most popular, most high-traffic blog on the web? I had to admit that she was right...and also that I have to be true to myself. I have to blog about that which I'm passionate...hence my genealogy finds are what I'll be mostly writing about.

I guess we just have to be open to having our plans altered. And we need to stop putting unrealistic demands on ourselves...or beating ourselves up when we don't meet those demands.

    Love and hugs to you,
    Patti

  3. Oh, Kathy and Patti! Both of you are such wonderful friends and you always know what to say! Thanks so much for stopping by as often you do. I know I don't get to either of your blogs as much as I would like. Big bear hugs to you both!

  4. Unfortunately, there's lot of messes we have to try and avoid.

Yes, I agree with Kathy M. Your memoir will get finished when it's time...

    Congratulations to Carol!

I like the Woody Allen quote. That one makes a lot of sense to me.

  9. Hi Sioux ~ Thanks for stopping and commenting! Yeah, life is full of messes sometimes, isn't it? I like to say, "Life is a crapshoot. You never know what's going to happen."

Hi Sandie ~ I love it, too!! I found a few I really liked, but chose this one...for now, anyway!

Hi Daisy ~ Thanks! And yes, I like the quote, too!

  10. I love that fortune you got, and I cannot help but entertain the possibilities if typos were in play. Okay, so your fortune ended with: "You can expect greatness if you avoid the great mess." How true also is the typo alternative: "You can expect great mess if you avoid the greatness."

Am I right or am I right? (Notice no typo-driven confusion in that question!)

    Hope you're well, Becky!

  14. Hi Katie! Hmmm, very thoughtful on possible typos, and I love your "Am I right or am I right?" Let me ask this: Am I right in thinking that's from Groundhog Day?? I'm feeling better, too. Thanks!

Hi Peggy! Thanks so much! I hope some of it pays off! :)

Hey Carmelina! Thank you, and no, you hadn't mentioned yet that you like the new look of my blog!

  15. Hi Becky! I just read recently how there's always a period of rest with things - whatever it is - so now your memoir is resting - just keep writing though no matter what!
