* Nostalgic Sundays *

Time for Another Nostalgic Sunday

Last year on November 30th, I wrote about Doris Day. It had to do with coming across a blogger's profile which said she loves Doris' movies. I have to admit I've probably watched every single movie of hers, numerous times. When I was growing up, I wished I looked like her, could sing like her, and be in movies like her. Well, we all know that didn't happen!

BUT, as I also wrote in that November post, she did save my life!

I actually wrote to Miss Day many years ago, telling her that reading her biography gave me the courage to get out of a bad marriage. A chapter in my memoir, Doris Day, A.E. Hotchner, and Me explains it all.

Would you believe I received a reply?? I sure did! She thanked me for writing. (I imagine she had a secretary who answered all her correspondence, but there was her signature.....as far as I know!) And can you also believe I have misplaced that note?? Yep. But, I know it is here, somewhere. I've looked in all the places I would keep something as important as that. I actually kept it in the same file for years. Why and how it got moved, I have no idea. Finding it is high on my List of Things to Do.

I'm writing about Doris again today because her 88th birthday is April 3rd. I have other blog posts already planned for the week, and where better to depict her than Nostalgic Sunday?

* Welcome to my newest follower, Gwen Buchanan. I hope you'll stop by often and always enjoy what you read and see! Thank you! * (A funny side note: I reached 300 Followers with Jessie, on Wednesday the 28th, and right away lovely Gwen became 301....until today, that is. Somewhere along the line, I lost somebody, so now I'm at 300 again. And that is perfectly OKAY. I understand those kinds of things. So, Gwen, if you'd like to receive a tiny gift for being my 2nd 300th Follower, please let me know!!

  5. Hi Becky, You are altogether too generous!!! Thank you so much I would love it!!!

You know, this is somehow ironic .. as in my past life I had someone very special to me that always sang that song, Que sara, sara.. and I never hear it without remembering her.. I love this! Cheers to you!!

  7. Lovely post. I, too, am a big fan of Doris Day. I haven't read her biography, though. I'll have to add it to my list.

  9. I love Doris Day as well. I remember looking in my grandmother's True Confessions magazines (remember those?} and reading about her. I loved her movies and haven't watched one in a really long time. She always seemed like such a down to earth person. I always loved her hair too lol.

  10. What a great story! But, such a shame you have misplaced the note. Hopefully it will turn up again.

I really admire Doris Day for all the work she does with animals and her animal league.

  11. Doris Day is pure delight!! She seems like the kind of person who WOULD respond to a letter from a fan, so I'm not at all surprised you got one. I do hope you can find it...definitely a treasure.

    Blessings,
    Patti

  13. Hi Becky! Love your post on Doris Day, and how awesome to get a personal response from her! She has always been one of my favorites too. I'm going to make a point to read her biography. Thanks for reminding me of how great she is. Hope that letter turns up! :)

  14. I'm trying to remember the exact movie - I think it's With Six You Get Eggroll - the prototype for the Brady Bunch to come - when Doris finally gets married and on the wedding night she plops on the floor beside the bed to do her usual exercise routine including the bicycle with legs rotating in the air, talking a mile a minute. So funny!

  15. Ahh, The Man Who Knew Too Much! Loved that movie when I was a kid, even though I probably didn't understand all the international intrigue.

I'm going to see if I can pick Doris Day radio on Pandora today!

  17. BECKY ~
I can't say I'm really a Doris Day fan, but I think my Mom met her a few times when both of them were associated with some radio station in Cincinnati, Ohio. (I forget all the details to this story, but my Ma mentioned it to me once or twice over the years.)

I can, however, relate to the angst of a lost and important autograph: During all the years I was working in Hollyweird, and meeting big-name celebrities weekly on movie and TV sound stages, only twice did I ever approach a star and ask for their autograph:

    One was for my Ma:
I got her Joe Namath's autograph, during his short-lived TV series in the late '70s or early '80s. (She thought he was really sexy.)

And for me, myself & I:
I approached Chuck Berry on the set of the movie 'American Hot Wax' and asked for his autograph. Which he gave to me, while saying some very cool things.

And now... I can't find that blasted Chuck Berry autograph! I've been searching for it a couple of years; looked every place I can imagine having put it, but still I've come up empty.

It's funny because for years I used to run across it in various places almost annually. Now, when I REALLY want to locate it again, I can't find it!

But I know that it must be here in this house SOMEWHERE, because under no circumstances would I or anyone else have ever thrown it away.

I WILL run across it again some great day, and when I do, I already know where I will place it for safekeeping and so I will NEVER lose track of it again. Where else?: In the CD jewel case of my 'American Graffiti' soundtrack album!

Once or twice I mentioned having misplaced my Chuck Berry autograph on my 'STUFFS' blog, so all my old, regular readers already know that I've been distressed about this for a couple of years.
