* To Do Lists *

What kind of things are on your To Do List? Mine just seems to keep getting more added to it, and hardly any crossed off. Go to post office and mail packages. Pick up photographs from art contest. Type up those notes from that meeting a month ago, that I've promised to different people. Do a blog post about different anthologies and contests I want to mention. Read those three library books I borrowed and already had to renew. Contact so-and-so about a guest blog post and book give-away. Write. Write. Write. Calls for Submissions, Contests, and my memoir. Add a zillion more things I need and/or want to accomplish. There's 24 Hours every day, yet even when I'm very careful about not wasting time, I feel like I don't have much to show for it when midnight rolls around. (Notice I haven't even mentioned house cleaning or laundry!)

Every day for the past week, I've told myself that TODAY is the day I'll reply to comments. I'll answer e-mails. I'll get to many of the blogs I want to stop at, read, and comment on. And another day goes by, and it's 12:30am and I have to get some sleep.

Well, at least I did work a lot on a chapter for my memoir the past two days, and I'm very pleased with myself for that. As The Ronald always says, "I've got that going for me!"

  1. I think your memoir is more important than commenting on blogs (at least that's my opinion). I imagine people will understand you putting your book at the top of your priority pile. But again, my opinion...

  2. Your memoir is far and away the most important thing on your to do list at the moment.
I cheat. I always put at least one thing on the list that I know I can cross off (clean teeth, feed cats, drink tea...). Crossing off that first thing gives me a sense of achievement and often means I can cross others off as well. (Yes I know, other people have said it is weird, but it works for me)

  5. It seems like when I have free time, I do less real writing and more puttering around. I do things last minute, so I guess I work best under pressure. Glad you've gotten back to your memoir Becky.

  6. I have a two datebooks, plus two electronic calendars, that I use to keep track of everything. So I know what you mean! Those lists just keep getting longer - that's why I divide them up onto different calendars. ;)

  7. Ahhh! You are giving me anxiety just thinking about how busy YOU are, Becky. Glad you are satisfied with the work you got done on your book.

I usually don't make a list until I can't keep things straight, and then I write it down and work on it.

    Best of luck,

    Kathy M.

  8. I have a constantly growing to-do list myself, but I'm pretty casual about it. I figure that if I can just get it on the list, eventually it'll get done!

  9. I think your memoire is by far more important than being distracted by the Internet~
My to-do list consists of packing, packing, and more packing and then finally moving! Can't wait for it all to be over!!

  10. While I think my writing so important, my husband believes a great home-cooked dinner a far greater priority. It really is the bathroom door concept.

  13. I'm singing the long list blues, too, Becky. I guess the key is to pick the most important thing and do it first, the rest can follow along later.

  14. I have good intentions. Every Friday afternoon, I skip out of school with grand plans to fill my weekend with writing.

The kids, husband, laundry, shopping, and bills beg to differ.

  15. I feel like a member of a universal club. I guess somehow we just all have to keep trying to fit in the writing. Right now my sink's full of dishes, so I have to stop reading my favorite blogs. But glad I got to yours Becky.
