* Nostalgic Sunday *

It's Time for Another Nostalgic Sunday

I didn't realize it had been such a long time since I last posted a Nostalgic Sunday, but it looks like it was July 22nd. (Time to get back into my routine again.)

Since it's almost October, let's talk about purchasing Christmas cards!

A couple of years ago I somehow stumbled upon the Bodleian Library at the University of Oxford, in Jolly Old England! Yes, it's THAT Oxford University! The library sells truly unique items and two of my favorites are their Christmas cards and wrapping paper. That first year I wasn't aware of the store until really close to Christmas, but the sales staff is so competent and good to their customers that I received my cards in time. The design below is what I bought that first year.
Jolly Girls Christmas cards. Aren't they adorable?

Last year, I ordered much earlier and bought three designs of cards and two designs of wrapping paper. All of the items are made of such quality, heavy-weight material.
Last year, besides Jolly Girls, I bought this design and one other.
This is one of the wrapping paper designs. It comes folded, so it's easy to ship and it's such good quality.
Also: All profits from your purchases help fund the conservation, collection and care of the Libraries' important papers and manuscripts.

I honestly don't remember how much my total was, including shipping, but I didn't think it was that bad, considering everything! Please check out their site and browse their online store. And if you have any questions, just e-mail Wendy at sales@bodleian.ox.ac.uk. Tell her "Becky sent me!" (Wendy or other staff members can calculate the cost in American dollars, of course!)

Since this is Nostalgic Sunday and I'm writing about Christmas, I must take a moment to mention how sad I was to hear that Andy Williams passed away last week. When I was growing up, I watched his TV show every week, bought a couple of his record albums, especially the Christmas ones, and his family Christmas show was by far my favorite all year.

So, both of my favorite "Andys" are gone now: Andy Williams, and of course, Andy Griffith. But, how fortunate we are to have them on film, and vinyl, and tape, and CDs, etc. They will  never really leave us.

  1. Hi Becky, I also need to get back into blogging and memes. I enjoyed your post. The cards and paper look good and very different. I too grew up with Andy Williams and am sad to read about his passing. thanks for your visits to my blog while I've been so "absent"! Hugs Jo

  3. I have to admit the last 3 years I haven't sent cards - not that I don't want too - but they are expensive!

I think in that quote - what I miss is the old family gatherings.

    Have a good day.

  4. A very nice post Becky. I loved Andy William's music. A few years ago my daughter and I saw The Andy Williams Christmas Show at Branson MO. It was wonderful!

  5. Hey Chatty ~ I totally understand about the expense...especially in postage!

Hi Beth! I'm so envious that you saw Andy in person. I kept talking about it, but never got there. I wonder what his theater will do this holiday season? I bet they could fill the seats just showing his old TV shows.

  6. Love your choices in all above!
I saw Andy twice. Once was Christmas shoe and other was with Petula Clark a few years ago. He was still good but she was a little perkier...maybe younger, I don't know. :)

  7. The cards and paper remind me of the pictures in the Bobbsey Twins books. Nostalgic, indeed.

  8. Hi Becky....Thanks for stopping by my blog and commenting. Always nice to see that you've stopped by.

Hope your Sunday is going well.

I was sad to see ol' Andy Williams died, too. I like his voice. His songs are a good legacy to leave behind.

  10. For a woman whose posts I love you just marched to the top of my bad list. Christmas. Shudder. I am not, not, not ready to think about it. Yet. Though I do have three small presents ferreted away.
I love the cards, I love the wrapping paper and I AM STILL NOT READY TO THINK OF CHRISTMAS. OK?

  11. I was so happy to pop over here and see that you posted a Nostalgic Sunday. I think we must be around the same age because we seem to be nostalgic over the same things. I LOVED those pictures of your Christmas cards and wrapping paper. I'm with Val, they remind me of the Bobbsey twins too.I also was sad to see Andy Williams had passed. It was a special time for me as a child to sit with my mom and watch his specials--especially if the Osmonds were involved. :)

  12. It really was to lose another Andy this past week. Such good memories of the songs he sang. Thanks for the link to this store! I know I will love it! Happy Fall!

  13. Andy Williams and Sing Along with Mitch were some our family favorites.

I send very few cards. I like whimsical stuff, but the Mister prefers the religious-themed stuff. For some reason, they don't speak to me.

Last year, he bought some at the Dollar Store - and the envelopes had no adhesive. Guess he got what he paid for - cheap quality all the way 'round.

  14. Becky I like the Christmas cards. But I must confess, I'm still not ready to think about Christmas. Weather here is still in the high eighty's sometimes 90+. So it still feels like summer.

Didn't know Andy Williams passed away. Sad.

  16. Hi Claudia! Glad you got to see Andy in person!

Hi Val! Yes...The Bobbsey Twins! I have a couple of those books...passed down from my MUCH older sisters!

Hi Susan! Thanks! And aren't we fortunate to have CDs and DVDs of the celebrities we love?

Hi Patricia! Oh yes...Hobby Lobby starting Xmas stuff out right after July 4th, I think! TOO EARLY!!

Hey EC! I hear ya! I'm not really ready to think about Xmas either!

Hi Randi! Yes, I think we're close in age....but I'm most likely much older!

Hey Lavender Dreamer! Yes, Andy was one of a kind. Have fun browsing in the Oxford store!

Hey Kim! OH yes...Mitch Miller, too! I laughed at your adhesive problem....I've had that too...just get out my glue stick and fix 'em!

Hi Myrna! Yes, too hot to think about Xmas, and too early for me, too, really.

Hi Pat! I love vintage stuff, too!
