Merry Christmas!

A delightful incident happened to me yesterday morning. I got up early, wrapped and packaged three copies of my memoir, grabbed some Christmas cards I still hadn't mailed, and drove to my nearby post office. I got there about 10 minutes after they opened, so there was No Waiting! Yippee! (No, that's not the incident I was referring to.)

On the way home, I went to a well known fast food Drive-Thru to get a cup of coffee, since I hadn't taken the time to make any at home....yet. When I pulled up to the window to pay for it, I was informed by the young employee that I didn't owe anything...that the driver in the car in front of me paid for it! Which then prompted me to want to do the same. I didn't have a whole lot of money with me, so before I automatically declared I'd pay the total for the car behind me, I asked how much it was. (What if the driver was picking up a breakfast order for an entire office??) The total was something like $4.60, so I said, "Okay. I'll pay for it!"

Something as simple as that, gave me such a smile on my face and joy in my heart. I wonder if the trend continued until that particular group of cars were gone? I'm sure many of you have done the same, or have wanted to.

  4. A non-queue would mean a WONDERFUL incident to me, Becky. But what a lovely RAK from the man in front of you in the drive-through. And that you did the same, means you "paid the good deed forward". Merry Christmas to you, your hubby and dear Vern. (((Hugs))) Jo

  6. I've heard about this pay-it-forward thing, I don't think it happens much out here, it's a lovely idea though. I've seen other random acts of kindness, at supermarket checkouts, if someone is a dollar or two short for their total, someone in the queue will pay up the extra so they don't have to put things back. As a checkout operator, I've even done it myself, let the customer go and topped up the till later with my own money.

  7. If only everyday people expressed their generosity with a smile, a kind word or by buying the next guy in line a meal. Very nice. Our reading was fun in an historic old building.

  12. Yes, it happened here! My order of one Burger King chicken sandwich meal for my son was half paid-for by a driver two cars ahead. I think the guy ahead of us only got sodas.

    Merry Christmas!
