* IT'S TEA CUP TUESDAY *

Those who have followed my blog for a long time probably remember the times I participated in Tea Cup Tuesdays. I really enjoyed it and seeing all the gorgeous tea cup sets, but I didn't have enough in my small collection to continue very long! (Also, I think my writing needed to move up on my "Important Things to Do List!")

I'm fairly certain that when The Ronald and I moved last year, I gave some away....
I know! How crazy was that?? I haven't even opened the boxes that are labeled Tea Cups and/or Tea Pots because I really don't have anywhere to showcase them. Just writing this post, though, made me decide to go through those boxes and see what I have!

Okay....so I'm reposting my Tea Cup Tuesday blog from July 5, 2010...almost exactly four years ago.
~~~
It's "Tea Cup Tuesday" and I'm joining Martha's Favorites.
I'm truly excited to show one of my recent finds at the Antique Mall near my home. I think this particular set is so unique. First of all, it's not pink! It's a lovely golden yellow, on a white background, trimmed in gold.
Also, the edges of both the cup and saucer are slightly scalloped, which adds even more beauty, I think.
The "back" side of the cup has just the one flower bud .
And the Pièce de résistance is....................photo below.............
THE BOTTOM OF THE SAUCER STILL HAS THE "KRESGE" PRICE TAG OF 49¢
Isn't that hilarious?? I think if I were the owner, I would've removed that before I attempted to sell it! How many of you are familiar with the old Kresge stores?? We had them in St. Louis when I was really young. They were similar to Woolworth's.....kind of a small discount/department store, before there were K-Marts and such. (I think the same man, Mr. Kresge, also owned K-Mart.)
I paid $4.99 for the set, but I would've paid a lot more, just because I loved the old-fashioned price tag!!
* If you have any tea cups you'd like to show, please join in the fun! They don't have to be anything fancy, and they don't even have to be china. Once or twice I shared some photos of my crocheted tea cups! Just click on Martha's link above.*
  1. Oh my...I used to have so many. Most of them have been handed off to the daughter or to the thrift store. The few I have left were Moms. You brought back memories of the euchre parties the folks used to have....lovely china cups and saucers even for the men.
    1. Hi Delores! I'm happy this brought back memories to you. My mother used to always play Bridge and some of the times it was her turn to have the "party" at our house. There would be a couple of folding card tables set up in our tiny living room, with cards laid out, cups of coffee, and the candy, Bridge Mix! Do you remember them?
    2. Bridge Mix and Licorice Allsorts...always.
  2. What a beautiful and unique teacup. I love the scalloped edges.
    I grew up in Pittsburgh, PA, and we had Kresge there. Also G.C. Murphys and Woolworth. I think they were all called "five and dime" stores.
    Have a great day,
    Patti
    1. Hey Patti! Yes, in addition to Kresge's, we had Woolworths, but I don't think I've ever heard of GC Murphys. (My first job was at Woolworths....Have you read that part in my memoir yet??!!) Oh, and yes....the Five and Dime stores!
  3. HI Becky,
    I am so very pleased to meet you. Oh what happy memories that Kresge price tag has..... my mother and I used to go downtown New Westminster and shop there. The teacup is so very pretty. I have only been blogging for just over one year and so I wasn't fortunate to see that post four years ago. Thank you for visiting me and leaving such kind words. I hope that you have a wonderful week! Karen
  6. What fun you had buying THIS one! Love the tag too. I have a 1949 Montgomery WArd catalog somewhere here that I love for the same reason...to feel the era of the piece, no think of years gone by. It is a pretty cup besides!
    1. Claudia, I love looking at old ads, too. That's really neat that you have the old catalog! When I was blog hopping recently I came across a blog that has lots of cool vintage items, like magazines...and with the old cigarette ads! Don't remember where I saw it at the moment, though!
  7. What a delicate, beautiful charmer. These days I drink my tea from mugs - both because I can fit more in it, and because I am a klutz. Love this though. Thank you.
    1. Hey EC! I rarely drink tea, unless it's "iced tea!" But I love tea cups and tea pots. I drink my coffee from a variety of things...depending on my mood! Coffee mugs, Styrofoam cups with lids from the local gas station, a tall insulated cup with Bling around it, etc! LOL And hey....Klutzy people are my friends, ya know!
  8. I am familiar with Kresge's, also. Your teacup is such a treasure and can you believe that it had been 49 cents!!?? It's so nice to meet you, Becky, and thank you for your visit to my blog.
  10. Love that this set isn't so over-the-top floral-y and delicate .... frankly intimidating for certain folks (ahem) who've large fingers! Plus, it features my favorite color ... yea!
    1. Hi Myra! You made me smile....talking about large fingers! LOL
      Yellow is a pretty color, isn't it? I don't have a "favorite" color....I love 'em all!
  12. Your post makes me think of all the tea cups I used to own. Over the years with our moves, I've gotten rid of them too. I wish I had saved one set for me.
    1. Hi Terri! I completely understand how moving, and especially moving often, causes us to get rid of things. I think you should check out the antique/thrift shops and buy yourself a tea cup set!
  13. While I love to look at pretty teacups, I drink my tea in an enormous clunky mug that also is most excellent for holding soup on a blustery winter night.
I just double checked because I wasn't sure if I had done that or not. I noticed my little picture was missing and there was only an "X" where it should've been....so I managed to somehow fix it!
