Not only did we walk to and from school, but we spent endless hours roaming our neighborhoods and nearby canyons (we lived in San Diego). My sister and I never encountered any problems nor did we ever hear of any. All of us kids in the Daycare Center hated the place (or so we said) and we'd spend a great deal of time imagining ways we could escape. (Often building a rocket out of big wooden blocks so we could fly out of it.)

But what's so funny is that my Brother and I would voluntarily walk from school to the place. So we'd imprison ourselves first, and then complain and attempt escape. Gotta love that kind of kid-logic, eh?

Today, no parent in their right mind would let their children make that same walk we made every Monday through Friday. It would just be begging for trouble. Times have changed, and not for the better.

~ D-FensDogG
'Loyal American Underground'Stephen T. I used to kick around the leaves on the sidewalk on my way home from school in my grey uniform and mary-janes. I was more of a tomboy, though, so I couldn't wait to get home to change into jeans and a hoody and go find a tree to climb. *sigh*Trishhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18273468231529654323noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3412682543148147625.post-53327122886546427512016-10-17T01:17:48.243-05:002016-10-17T01:17:48.243-05:00The 50s and 60s were the best time for kids, we ro...The 50s and 60s were the best time for kids, we roamed everywhere with minimum rules, home just before the sun was down, or in time for dinner whichever came first.
