* Huh? Are You Kidding Me? *

A funny thing happened while I was typing an e-mail recently....

I'm only familiar with AOL's way of doing things, so I don't know if the rest of the world has something like this in their e-mail spell-check program or not.....

As I was referring to a mutual friend, named Rita, I spelled it: Reeeeters, because that's what we call her sometimes. AOL, in its infinite spelling wisdom, decided to suggest other words to replace the "misspelled" one. The following list of words, in order, were provided as possible replacements: Beefeaters, Beekeepers, Respecters, Regenerates, Freebooters, Recreates, Regenerators, Repeaters, Requesters, Roomettes, Beefeater, Executers, Rebutters, Remitters, Reregisters, and Receptors.

The first two were actually my favorites and I immediately began to laugh out loud when I read them. By the time I got to "Freebooters", I was really howling and then totally lost it with "Roomettes" and "Beefeater" as if maybe the singular of "Beefeaters" was a better choice!

  1. Tee-hee! You may need to choose a new nickname for Rita in order to pacify the editors-that-be at AOL!

  2. Hi Pat! If you knew Rita, you'd know that she's a woman of many talents.....therefore she certainly could use another nickname or two! Thanks!

  3. Spell-checker will definitely make you laugh sometimes. What in the world is a roomette, anyway?

  4. That is too funny! Some of those seem quite a long way off from what you were spelling!

  5. Hi Janel and Daisy! I know! That's what is so funny and crazy about it. I just knew my fellow (fellowette?) bloggers would also find it comical!

  6. Some of those sound like weirder nicknames than Reeeter! As in, "My house is so small, I have roomettes." Or, "I can't sit in my chair; I have Roomette's disease." And what the heck is a freebooter?? Sounds to me like a freeloader, but meaner.

  7. Catching up with all things Becky today to say...

    1. Love the Woody Allen quote.

    2. Love, love, love Anne Lamott's book. Definitely a keeper.

    3. WHAT THE FREAKIN' HECK? A BOOK? ACCEPTED BY YOUR PUBLISHER? Sheesh, you skip a couple days, just a couple, and bam, you're out of the loop! (Congrats and happy writing :-)

  9. Thanks, Cathy C! I didn't even realize you were "out of the loop", but nice to have you back! I just love Woody Allen quotes!! I have a few more, farther down on the right hand side of my blog, too. And yeah, I can't believe what a phenomenal book Bird by Bird is...and I've read a few chapters!! I usually, NEVER, write in a book, with even a pencil, but in this one....I've got all kinds of things underlined and starred, etc! And finally...yes,I still can't believe I'm saying those words, "I have a publisher for my book!" I'm in a dreamland. It's going to be a long time before I'm finished, though, because I still have lots to write of my first draft....and you know what Anne Lamott calls THAT!! :D

I'm still getting quite a few spam comments that are Anonymous, so I'm trying "User with Google Accounts." If anyone tries to comment that I know, and it won't let you, send me an email, okay? Thanks so much.
