My mind works in mysterious ways. For the past couple of months, I've thought about how great it would be to make my own custom DVD of just certain scenes from my favorite movies. There would be a great variety, too.....comedies, dramas, musicals, love stories.
Two scenes come immediately to my mind:
1) The movie: The Odd Couple (1968).
The scene: Felix (Jack Lemmon) & Oscar (Walter Matthau) sitting in the restaurant. Felix's ears keep plugging up because of his sinuses, so he starts making outrageous, honking noises. I laugh myself silly every time I see it. As hilarious as Jack Lemmon is, the droll look on Walter Matthau's face also gets me. As he looks around the restaurant and makes eye contact with customers, his embarrassent is priceless!
2) The movie: The Sound of Music (1965)
The scene: When Maria (Julie Andrews) walks down the long aisle in church, wearing her beautiful wedding gown, with the long train, trailing behind her. The music playing is "How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria?" Don't ask me why....It just used to make me cry every single time!
Okay, you get the picture! (Ha! Get it??...the picture?)

ReplyDeleteDefinitely the scene near the end of An Affair to Remember where Cary Grant realizes why Deborah Kerr stood him up at the Empire State building. :-) What a great idea...sort of like a Greatest Hits of Your Fav Movies! :-)
I'm not sure what this says for me, but my absolute favorite scene is from the original Willie Wonka movie, when everybody finds the candy fantasy room. Everything is sweet and edible, even the chocolate stream!
ReplyDeleteHi Becky...My favorite scene would be from the movie "O Brother Where Art Thou," when the escaped former inmates get up on stage and sing their hearts and souls out! LOVE THAT MOVIE. George Clooney is terrific. Sincerely, Susan
ReplyDeleteIn “Gone With the Wind,” I LOVE the scene where the AWOL soldier has broken in and a sickly Miss Melly comes crashing down the stairs with her brother’s giant sword. Then when she sees that Scarlett has already killed the intruder, we think she’s going to be all horrified, but instead she says, “Scarlett, you shot him! I’m glad you shot him.” OH! And I love the part where Scarlett matter-of-factly says, “Well, I guess now I’ve done murder.”
ReplyDeleteWhat an interesting idea, Becky. I have so many favorite movies that it would be hard to choose, but one of my favorites is Notting Hill. I guess I would choose the scene at the end where he shows up at the last minute at her press conference and she chooses him to ask a question of her.

ReplyDeleteHi Susan! Oh Yes! That one came to my mind right away! I just can't see it too many times! And, my husband actually likes that movie, and especially that part. We've gotten to where we can speak the lines right along with Deborah and Cary! :D

ReplyDeleteI have lots and lots of favorites. However, I'll pick some scenes from "To Kill a Mockingbird". Thrilling when the spectators in the courtroom rise in tribute as Atticus walks past them. And so poignant when Scout finally meets and thanks Boo Radley. Talk about lump in the throat moments!

ReplyDeleteHey Becky - for me it would be the end of Homeward Bound when the Golden Retriever limps over the hill. I've watched that scene 20 times at least and I cry every time like I don't know he's alive. LOL I also love the Sound of Music when Maria and Cpt. are outside the Gazebo *sigh*. And A Few Good Men when Jack Nicholson declares "You can't handle the truth!" Love it!

The first one would have to be the scene in Moonstruck where Cher slaps Nicholas Cage and yells at him "Snap Out Of It!" I love that scene. My other fav is from the Michael Keaton movie - Mr. Mom where he shows up dressed as the home repair guy w/a chainsaw in his hands and his wife's boss asks him about remodeling the house - "Are you gonna make it all 220?" And Michael Keaton replies, "Yeah, 220, 221, whatever it takes." Absolutely screamed laughter! Love ur blog. Hugs!

ReplyDeleteHey Lisa! oooh, I just got goose-bumps! LOL. Any movie with a dog coming home, hurt or unhurt...oh yeah..grab the tissues! AND, I almost listed that scene in the Gazebo, too!! LOVE IT! And also the one where the Captain is playing his guitar and singing Edelweiss (for the first time in a long time) and Maria is gazing at him from the doorway...!

Hey Gramma Ann! 2 more movies I love! This is great fun! The Hello Dolly scene also reminded me of some scenes in the musical "Mame" with Lucille Ball. I really liked that movie! "Life is a banquet, and most poor slobs.. (or) *****(insert various words, depending on which version of play, movie, etc. seen!)...are starving to death!"

ReplyDeleteSome of my favorite scenes have singing and dancing in them.
I really like the scene in Ferris Bueller's Day Off where he's signing "Danke Schoen" on the float in the parade. My other would be "The Blues Brothers" when everyone starts to dance and Aretha sings "You Better Think, Think About What You're Trying to do to Me."
Okay, I'll be singing that song all day now.

ReplyDeleteI love the line in "Dangerous Minds" where Michelle Pfeiffer says, "Mr. Grandy, in my class reading poetry is its own reward." This is after she bribed the class to read poetry with a trip to an amusement park. Or how about Crocodile Dundee saying "This is a knoife!" Love it.
