** Fractured Friday **

How many remember the Fractured Fairy Tales? It was a segment on the Rocky and Bullwinkle TV Show, in the 1960's. That cartoon show was a classic! I guess it was meant to be geared toward children, but the humor was really hip! Each one was loosely based on a "real" fairy tale (isn't that an oxymoron??), but was slighty fractured!

That's what popped into my mind when I thought of a title for today's post. Yeah, my mind works in funny, fractured ways sometimes....groan!

Today was fractured because:

a)  My son, Scott, spent another night in the hospital last night, due to pains and swelling in his abdominal area. I didn't know much for over 24 hours and was quite frantic, to put it mildly. Turns out it's still issues from his ruptured appendix and resulting surgery in June. More tests were done, and so I (guess I)  feel better about it all.....for now, anyway.

b)  Today was my mom's birthday. She's been deceased since 1989. I'm so glad she was able to see Mark a few times before she died. She lived in Iowa and we drove there a few times and she traveled here a time or two, also. She would've been 95 years old today.

c)  I'm really perturbed at AOL. It seems they have decided to LIMIT some of the e-mails we AOL users can send, in a given amount of time! I first noticed it yesterday, when I tried to send an e-mail, I received the following error message: You are blocked from sending email messages. See KW:RATE LIMITS for details.  And, of course, I immediately thought, Huh?...Well, that's obviously a mistake. I'm not on any kind of rate limit on my Aol account. But, when it continued, I put my mail in the "Send Later" folder. After a while, I could go into that folder and click "Send" and off it went.  BUT, this evening, after attempting to send 5 different e-mail.....mostly my "thank you for your comments on my blog" e-mail,  I decided to see if I could find the "rate limits" info. Long story short.....(I know, it's already too long)......It has to do with some kind of spam problems associated with Aol Instant Messaging and Chat Rooms. (which I don't even use)  I then contacted AOL through their Live Chat System and after the usual niceties was told, quote: "Meantime, if you really need to send mail I strongly suggest to use the AOL webmail. On the Internet Explorer address bar please type
Sign on with your AOL screen name and password to send the E-mail."

WHAT?? If I wanted to send mail that way, I wouldn't have AOL! Acccckkkkk!!!  I have a new abbreviation for them......SOL

  1. Hi Becky,
Sounds like you've had a bad day. I'm sending you a virtual hug that things get better soon.

  2. Becky---I remember Bullwinkle, of course, and Boris and Natasha, but the Fractured Fairytales were off in some dusty, cobwebby corner...forgotten. Your blog gave me a nudge. I'm sorry your son's health is such a concern. I'll keep you in my thoughts...

  3. What a horrible day. I hope your son is feeling better.

Being in the UK I've never seen Bullwinkle, but the fairytale idea sounded fun. As for AOL limiting email Aggghhh!

  4. Noel Coward, doing his Debbie Downer. LOL! Fractured! LOLouder! (And, YES! I DO remember "Fractured Fairytales"! Yikes! That means I just told you my hair really is grey!)

Hope your son soon is in the fast lane on the road to recovery. I will keep him tucked into my prayers.

*looks to the Heavens* Happy B-day, Becky's mom!

    Love, SF~~~~~*

  5. Becky, I'm sorry to hear your son is having more health problems. I hope he is feeling better soon.

I do remember the Fractured Fairy Tales and loved Rocky and Bullwinkle!

I hope you get your troubles with your email ironed out--how frustrating!

  6. Hi Becky - I loved Fractured Fairytales. It was my favorite part of the Bullwinkle show. So sorry Scott is still suffering post surgery, and you along with him. Praying he is 100% very soon.

  7. I'm with Lisa--I used to watch R & B for the Fractured Fairytales!!! I thought it was the coolest thing ever! So sorry Scott's not 100% yet though. Sending good wishes. And hope your mom's birthday brought nothing but happy memories!

  8. I do remember fractured fairytales :-)

I hope your son is better soon!

  9. Lisa said it the same way I was going too. I do hope that Scott heals up soon, and I do remember Fractured Fairy tales. Wasn't there a little boy in another segment who always got into a pickle and said, "Mr. Wizard, I don't want to be a ________ anymore!" or something like that? And there was a swirly pinwheel graphic?

It is very easy and free to set up a Hotmail account, if AOL continues to be a pain. I sure hope that they don't do something similar to AOL though.

    Have a wonderful weekend!

  10. You have had a rough week - remember to breathe deeply as you go. sandie

  11. Hi Becky,

Hope your son is doing better today! No I have not had this problem, but I don't send a lot of emails at a time so...

Hope you have a better day today.

  12. Hope Scott feels better soon! Just wanted to let you know I'm still reading and there with you in spirit though I can't find too much time to comment these days.

  13. That's ridiculous! I may switch from AOL to gmail yet!!

As for Rocky and Bullwinkle, I loved 'em...

And as for your son, I hope he is feeling entirely well very soon. Do you know why he's still having these issues?

  14. Hope your son will be okay, Becky. Hope he returns 100 percent to perfect health. Sincerely, Susan

  15. I hope everything gets better with Scott soon. Sending good thoughts your way!

I would suggest moving to Gmail if you are having problems with AOL. I actually have 3 accounts with them!

  16. Well thoughts to your son. And Gmail is great. It's free and easy to use.

  17. I found you searching for help on the AOL Rate Limits thing. I'm having the same problem and it's driving me crazy. It started happening last week and I called AOL to get help. Since I was no longer a "paying" member, I had to sign up for service in order to get tech support. When I told the guy I wasn't interested in paying, I'd just send it from my Gmail account, he offered me free tech support for a month and a half. So I took it.

Not that it helps, because it happened again today and I called AOL for help and they have no solutions. I've done the same thing, putting it in my Send Later folder and even have signed off for a while, then back on. Sometimes it workds, sometimes not. I like AOL. I've been using it for over 15 years. I also use Gmail but AOL is m main and I want to keep it. Ugh! If you find any solutions, I'd love to hear from you - my email is - I may not be able to email you back, but at least I'll know what you found out! :)

  18. BECKY ~
Any friend of Rocky & Bullwinkle is a friend of mine!

I love the Fractured Fairy Tales segment of the R&B Show. In fact, it's my second favorite part of the program, after the actual adventures of Rocky & Bullwinkle, of course.

Surprisingly, what I have found as an adult watching these R&B episodes again is that the one segment of the show that, in my opinion, has held up least well over the years was also one of its most memorable: Peabody & Sherman.

I know you remember the super-brainy dog Peabody and "his boy" Sherman. Well, I find most of those segments to be the weak link in an otherwise GREAT, Classic cartoon.

The Peabody & Sherman puns that the episodes are developed around are real "groaners" - unlike the "bad" but "funny" puns that pop up constantly in The Adventures Of Rocky & Bullwinkle segments.

Do you have any particular favorite Fractured Fairy Tales? Some that stood out for me were Pinocchio; The Princess And The Goblins; and Sleeping Beautyland, where they absolutely skewered Walt and his Disneyland - funny stuffs!

I'm still getting quite a few spam comments that are Anonymous, so I'm trying "User with Google Accounts." If anyone tries to comment that I know, and it won't let you, send me an email, okay? Thanks so much.
