Thoughts on Another Hot Monday

This is the 7-Day Forecast for the St. Louis area.
It's approximately the 17th day in a row
of an Excessive Heat Advisory.

Iced tea is my favorite drink in the summer time,
and especially this year.
The pitcher is too dark in this photo, but I wanted
to point out the green grass in the backyard.
This was taken on June 27, 2011.
Our grass now is dry & brown & non-existent.

  1. My goodness, it must be hard to sleep in that kind of heat...or do you have A/C? We are having our first full week of sunny weather this summer, and it is welcome indeed! Keep drinking the iced tea...peach is the best!

  2. That Jane Austen quote is so funny! A state of inelegance. Yep, that's what hot weather does for you!! Not that we have very much of it over here in England.

  3. I can't believe how long this stretch of heat has lasted. I pity the folks who have to work in it. Arizona is hotter than us most of the year. Can you imagine?!

  4. I am fortunate that out here in the hinterlands, the temp is about 5 degrees cooler than in town. So I'm basking at 95. Or basting. Because my AC quit last night.

My husband went out at 4:00 a.m. and whacked the unit. That sounds inappropriate. But he spun the fan on the condensing unit and got it going. The repair man is coming this morning. I hope he doesn't stop it again. It worked fine until we called him to fix what wasn't broke two weeks ago. :)

And our grass continues to grow. My poor son is mowing another yard today. It's going to be 100 degrees. But it's $50. I send him with a big jug of ice water.

  5. Wow. Sorry about your lawn. How miserable for all of you.

I hope that you get some rain soon, Becky.

  7. I always prefer heat to frigidness, but this has been a bit extreme. I prefer being able to step outside without the need to shower returning five minutes later.

  8. I agree with you on hot weather, Becky. Fortunately, we don't have temps as high as you guys are having.

Whew doggie. That would wipe me out. Hate it when it's humid, though.

I'm a cold weather girl, through and through. Give me face-freezing weather and a crackling fireplace and I'm a happy camper. Susan

  9. Well, I know you're not used to the heat. Here in Southern New Mexico those temperatures are common.

I just came back from Arizona. Now that's hot!

But, as they say, "It's a dry heat."

    Hope temperatures cool down soon.

  10. Can you believe the temps you show actually look cool to me!!! It was 108 here yesterday with 106 still at 8:30 in evening.Today they are saying we will reach 111! If I would go outside, would the fat melt off my hips? NO!

  11. This heat is making folks cranky, I've noticed--myself included.
What a lovely glass pitcher. I'm enjoying a glass of tea right now before I go to my sisters pool.

  12. Hi Debora ~ Oh, yes, we have a/c! I feel terrible for the people who don't have it, and a lot of times it's the underprivileged, elderly who suffer without it.
And Peach Iced Tea is my favorite when I get a flavored one!

Hey Thisisme! I'd like a little cooler weather right now...maybe I should find a good air fare! :)

Hi Linda! I guess when you live in Arizona and New Mexico, you get used to it after awhile!

Hi Val! Hope you got your a/c fixed! And that your son stayed "cool".

Hi Kathy ~ Don't know when we'll get any rain! Thanks for hoping for us! :)

Hi Linda! The whole time I was in Georgia, it was hotter here than there! That pitcher was a birthday present. I'll have to write about it sometime!

Hi Paul! Yes, I agree! Thanks for stopping by!

Susan...there you go again...you're my twin!! Someday we'll just have to meet in person!

Hi Myrna! Yeah, the "dry heat"! :) We normally have temps in the 90s here in the summer, but not the high 90s and even 100. Come on autumn!!

Hi Sue ~ "Ugh" is right!

Hey Claudia! I cannot believe the temps you're getting there!! And LOL about the heat melting fat....we all can only hope! :)

Oh Donna! Went to a pool today?! Was it refreshing?? Or was it bathtub warm?? Thanks for mentioning the pitcher! I really like it, too.

  13. I love Jane Austen and really like that quote! Imagine how hot it'd be to have to wear the clothes they did back in their day! Not sure they had the hot temps like we do! But they sure didn't have A/C .... for which I am very grateful!
