Every time Vern and I go for a walk, I think of Pluto in the cartoons, sniffing the ground as he walked. That's exactly how Vern looks! He runs along sniffing, stopping, walking slower, sniffing some more, marking his areas.
Then, after he's completed his "Number Two Reason" for our walk, he proudly and happily trots home.
Vern chewing on one of his favorite "flips."
Why is this posted on Nostalgic Sunday? Because Pluto is so much a part of Walt Disney.....and on September 25th, I wrote about some of the Sundays of my youth....and the Wonderful World of Disney was a TV show we never missed. I always loved Pluto.
"You can say any fool thing to a dog, and the dog will give you this look that says, 'My God, you're RIGHT! I NEVER would've thought of that!'"-Dave Barry-
Oh I just love your Vern, Becky! And I grew up on WD films and loved Pluto too. I've linked to your blog in my post today. Hope you're having a wonderful day. Blessings, Jo
Hi Becky, I've been told by a mutual friend, Sandie, that you are from Missouri, too. You have a nice blog here and I'll be your newest follower. I love to meet new people and especially those from my home state!
I've enjoyed your post. I love Dave Barry and this was a great quote.
There is a real charm about early Disney and Walt himself was such an interesting man. I once spent an afternoon at Disney archives and it was such a thrill being able to see what I wanted.
We used to have a Pluto dog which was in the sniffing/playful posture, and of which I was terrified when I was little. My mom would gather all breakables in a corner and place the dog in front of them. It worked so well, I always took a meter wide detour around it ;-)
I'm still getting quite a few spam comments that are Anonymous, so I'm trying "User with Google Accounts." If anyone tries to comment that I know, and it won't let you, send me an email, okay? Thanks so much.
I get Pluto--but what the heck was Goofy? A dog? A man?

ReplyDeleteAww, I love Pluto! And Vern is so cute as always. <3 Love the Barry quote, that's so true!
ReplyDeleteHi Julie! I agree about Goofy. I think he was a dog-man, just like Mickey was a mouse-man, and Donald was a duck-man, etc.!
ReplyDeleteHi Jo! I'm glad you grew up with Walt Disney and Pluto, too! Also glad you love Vern! :)
Hi Melissa! Yes, Dave Barry is a hoot! I don't think I see things THAT clearly, though!
Hi Katie! Agree!!
Hi Deb! Thanks! Vern is a VERY sweet guy. He came to us with his name, and we've often wondered who was the inspiration for it!
Hi Cheryl! Wonderful to meet another new blog friend and especially a Missouri gal! I'm glad you like my blog and became a new follower. Welcome!
Hi Sue! Gotta love that Ed, too!
Hi Jenny! I would love to go through those archives, too!
Hi Estrella! Oh, I feel so badly for you! Isn't it interesting to think back on what frightened us as children?
Hi Daisy! Vern is my bestest friend!
Hey Bookie! Happy (belated) Halloween to you, too!
Hi Julie! Thanks! Gotta love all the dogs!
