Thoughts of Thanksgiving

Such busy times, but I'm trying to remember to take deep breaths, relax, and stay focused on what needs to be done...today, the next day, etc.

Such wise words from a little girl.

Have I mentioned we're having our family Thanksgiving THIS Saturday? Since we're a blended family...Yours, Mine & Ours...there's more than the "usual" parents and in-laws involved, so things can get really hectic. We began celebrating this way quite a few years ago and it works really well. I always say, "How many huge Thanksgiving meals can a person be expected to eat in one day?!"

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday, with Christmas a very close second. It's all about family, friends, and food! No commercialism. Every time I think about roasting the turkey, I swear I can actually smell that aroma and it brings such memories.....

I love to bake pies the day before. This year I'm making my usual two pumpkin pies, plus two apple pies. Oh yeah, and some banana bread with cream cheese frosting. Mmm good!

I make this type of crumble top apple pie and it's so easy.

  5. Hi Becky, Thanks for stopping by my place, leading me to yours. I never thought about the basic reason I prefer Thanksgiving to Christmas....but you stated it simply - family without commercialism.

    I'm your newest follower.

  8. The cartoon is cute and so true! My pie baking consists of: one or two cherry (but not that filling stuff), a pumpkin, and a pecan.

  10. Have a great first Thanksgiving. It's so nice when families can cooperate about these things. I know some that over the years hated the holidays because they were always torn about which family to go to on the actual day.

  11. Hard to believe it is time for these holidays again already! You have a great celebration...the weather is to be nice for you I think!

  12. I'm a big fan of Thanksgiving as well. I wish we could combine our families a little better. We do thanksgiving dinner at my mom's house between 12-1 and then rush home to get a dinner ready for my boyfriend's kids. Unfortunately our home is not big enough to have everyone here but this year, we are cooking everything the day/evening before so we are not so rushed!

Wishing you a fantastic Thanksgiving Becky!!

  13. I was in the mall on Monday, and would you believe Santa Claus was there...he arrived on Saturday, the 12th. Then in WalMart, I heard Christmas music playing. My thought was, "Did I miss Thanksgiving?"

I hate hate hate that Thanksgiving gets overlooked.

I hope you have a wonderful celebration with your family.

    Love,
    Patti

  14. I love Thanksgiving and all the food and family. As the years go by my kids have more places to be so we do a meal together on a different day. It works for me. I just love being with my family whenever I can! hugs, Linda

  15. My mother used to do that do. Have a holiday meal on the weekend before or after. I always thought it was great because it seemed the holidays lasted longer! Things are different now, I'm older and a lot of family are gone, but it's still a special time for giving thanks and enjoying good food. Hope you have a wonderful time Saturday!

  16. Have fun, Becky! We do things like that sometimes too.

I just realized that Thanksgiving is NEXT Thursday! We will be driving a couple of hours away to spend it with my family, and I can't wait. Now I have to get ready, and that includes getting my studded tires on and my oil changed; along with gathering my stuff together.

  19. At this time of the year I think most women should buy a poster that says "Breathe" then hang it in a prominent area. Craziness can be fun - but when it gets to be too much it's just plain, old crazy. :)

  21. I LOVE Thanksgiving. But I do not like cooking it, at all!

This year, I am going to my DIL's. First time I won't be cooking.

    Hurray!

    =)

  25. I hope you have a nice Thanksgiving and enjoy the visit with your family, Becky. The holidays can be a stressful time with so much to do, but it is worth it to spend time with family and to remind us of how much we really do have to be thankful for. :-)

  26. Thanksgiving IS a great time, no matter how you do it. Sounds like yours is lots of fun, with so much family around. In my younger days with husband and lots of children and relatives around, my husband's side of the family hired a building to meet in, there were so many people. But I didn't like it as much; it wasn't "homey."

Have a GREAT Saturday celebrating the season!!

I don't want to cook this year but Mom is the glue that keeps everything together most of the time, so here I go again, a nice dinner with my dear ones. I am going to keep cooking until I can't anymore or until our kids decide to take up the gauntlet and do it !!!

  30. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday too, I totally agree. I hope you have a wonderful dinner with your family tomorrow, and a great weekend.

    Happy Thanksgiving, Becky! :)

  31. I am so glad you mentioned banana bread with cream cheese frosting! My aunt used to make that every year for Thanksgiving and she made the frosting pink. I have had cravings for it (pink frosting and all) but when I mentioned it to people they say things like, "Who puts frosting on bread?" I hope you have a great celebration this weekend.
