Books and Christmas...Christmas and Books

While blog hopping the other day I came across a photo of a Christmas tree made out of books. It was the coolest thing, but I don't remember where I saw it. (see previous blog post about my confusion and lack of attention span!)

Then yesterday my awesome friend, S. who is not a blogger and didn't even know I'd recently seen such a thing, sent me this:

I just love this! It's not the same one I saw on the other blog so that prompted me to Google Christmas trees made from books....and oh my gosh, you won't believe how many creative "trees" there are. Here's the link for hundreds of images that also includes "trees" made from recycled products. The book trees though are my favorites, naturally!

And speaking of Christmas and books.....how about books wrapped in "book" Christmas wrapping??

And do any of you remember these adorable Christmas cards I bought a couple of years ago? I found them at: Bodleian Library - University of Oxford.  Love them!

Whatever you do today, take a little time to savor the joy of reading, especially if it's a printed book!

"Christmas won't be Christmas without any presents," grumbled Jo, lying on the rug.-- first line of Little Women, by Louisa May Alcott  (one of my all time favorite books)

  1. That book christmas tree looks like something even I could make! All the ones I've come across have been huge elaborate constructions that I'm just not crafty enough to attempt. A small one on top of a table with books pulled from my shelf? That, I could probably manage.

I love the Lynn Hall quote - it is indeed so true.

  2. I have seen those book trees too and wonder how they stay together. Certainly no toddlers are around. I enjoyed your previous post and the button --that fits me to the "T." You share great quotes!

  4. Ah, books are like saltine crackers, go with anything don't they? Will admit I had never seen a book tree though! Hope the month continues to go well for you.

  6. The first book Christmas tree I ever saw was on the site Bookshelf Porn. I occasionally go there to see the amazing bookshelves/libraries and covet a little book nook of my own.

I'm reading two books on my Kindle, and listening to one audiobook - is that acceptable for today?

  9. I just love those cards that you bought. I went to the site. Is the shipping very expensive? And the book tree is fabulous! We just watched Little Women this week...the old one with K. Hepburn. Oh, how I love that movie! Sweet hugs!

  10. How creative. People are so creative. Maybe we'll try that one day when Katie is a little older. :)

  11. I love the book tree. And though I hate the commercialism of the season, I must agree with the quote, Christmas isn't Christmas without at least one little gift. Right?

  13. Oh I have to make one of those...perfect for this book lover and no books were harmed in the making of the tree. I adore Little Women too. Thanks for a lovely post.

  14. I saw that same tree, Becky, and I just loved it. Isn't it precious?

And those cards are cute as can be, too!

  15. I have seen a number of book Christmas trees and lusted after them all. Sadly, if I was to put one up (perhaps using my unread pile) the cats would treat it like Everest, set up base camp and try (repeatedly) to scale it.

  17. My wife always likes to read 'Twas The Night Before Christmas on Christmas Eve. How's that for honoring books? :)

  18. A Christmas Tree made out of books! How perfect! The only thing more perfect would be to wake up on Christmas morning to find it as one of your presents, and that it was made entirely of books that you hadn't yet read! Mmm...it's like chocolate. :)

  20. I also like the book tree. Saw another clever one made out of old and different suitcases, from big ones on the bottom getting smaller to the top of the 'tree'.

  21. Love all the book trees. And Little Women, including the Hepburn and Wynona Ryder movie versions. (I just watched a modern take on it though that I should have done without.) Another fave Christmas movie is The Homecoming - the original pilot for The Walton's, and in that one it is JohnBoy who comes to terms with his need to write.
