* SO MUCH TO SAY, SO MUCH TO DO *

Hello and Happy Monday!

Yeah, it's Monday. So, what do I have to be happy about?! My laptop is still working and I can write another new post! I'm trying to catch up with topics I've wanted to mention for quite some time. (AND, it was semi-warm here this afternoon -- like temps above freezing, and even warmer predicted for this week!)

Before I forget, please stop here and read my writer/blogger friend Claudia's beautiful poetry. And leave a comment if you can. (I had troubles, but it worked after I left out my blog address.)

I have some upcoming blog appearances that either mention my memoir or are longer guest posts.

February 18, tomorrow, I'll be at Elizabeth Seckman's blog. Please stop by and say hello. Elizabeth has an awesome blog, is also an author, and knows how it feels to self-promote books!

February 26, I'll be featured on Women's Memoirs, in a Q&A post. Please stop and leave a comment if you can. Matilda worked very hard getting everything set up for me. The title of it is:

My Long and Zig-Zaggy Road to Publication
Or
So, You Think You're Too Old to Write?

March 10, I'm doing a guest post on Carol Kilgore's blog, Under the Tiki Hut. My post there will be different from previous ones.

Date still to be specified The lovely Karen Lange has been patiently waiting for me to answer the questions she sent me ages ago, so I can also be a guest on her blog. Thank you, Karen!

Date still to be finalized Another blog stop happening at Juanita Nobles' blog sometime in April. (I apologize for inadvertently leaving this one out when I first posted it on Monday!)

~~~
* I'll also be hosting other writers on my blog very soon. If you would like to be featured here, please send an e-mail to the one listed in my profile. (And if we've already discussed your visit, but I've been a bit forgetful, please remind me!) *
I'd like to know opinions and/or knowledge about:  Kirkus Reviews
I just don't understand this. Writers from all over the world pay lots of money -- anywhere from $425 for "standard service" to $575 for "express service" for a review of their books. And what if the review isn't favorable? Has anyone paid for a Kirkus Review, or something similar? Or know anyone who has?
"A man is a success if he gets up in the morning and gets to bed at night, and in between he does what he wants to do." -- Bob Dylan
(surely he knows that applies to women, too!)
  1. My goodness you have been busy. Which is probably why it has escaped you that it is in fact Tuesday. Tuesday afternoon even. (Sorry Becky, I couldn't resist that) and will visit all of your guest posts.
    1. Ha! Thank you Ms EC!! Knowing me, it's certainly possible and probable that whatever day of the week I think it is.....will be incorrect! :) Thanks much for stopping by!
  2. Whoa, Elephants Child must be living in China! ; ). They are a day ahead of us in China. And you, Becky, are one busy lady! I still need to order and read your book. I don't think I thanked you for the Christmas card! Thank you! That was a special surprise! I didn't get out any cards this year as my daughter was home from China with our new granddaughter for the holidays so they kept us busy!
    Amazing comments about your book above! Congrats!
    1. Hi Sandy! That's funny about EC being from China. Good guess, but she lives in Australia! It's mind boggling thinking about where all our friends, family, and blog friends live, isn't it? What a huge and beautiful world! I'm glad you liked my Christmas card. I didn't get many sent, either. And if you can believe it, I'm STILL mailing some! TRUE! I just add a Happy New Year, and Happy Valentine's Day, on the inside! :) I'll be happy to mail you a signed copy of my memoir....hint, hint...or you can order it online at various places! Thanks so much for everything, especially your friendship.
  3. Hi Becky, I was so busy commenting on Claudia's lovely poem, I almost forgot to comment on your post! Congratulations on your upcoming mentions in future blogs about your memoir. You're so generous with your time spent on other blogs and book blurbs. I'm a bit hazy about reviews: can anyone do this? Please do tell. Till next time, (((hugs))) Jo
  4. That's the way to promote! I don't know about Kirkus, but I would not pay for a review. How does it benefit an author? Do they promote your work? Good luck busy woman.
    1. Linda, thanks! What I've read about Kirkus is that their reviews can help make or break a book. It's a "big time" name in reviews, I guess. And I was impressed when I read reviews by them, until I learned how much the author (or maybe publisher) has to pay to get a review. And of course, they say the review will be an honest one, but....I don't think they do any promoting, either.
  5. Wow you are busy. I don't think anyone should pay for reviews. I am sure there are sites out there indie book lists etc who would host/review for free? Good luck. Have a terrific Tuesday.
    Best wishes Molly
    1. Hi Bookie! You're very welcome. I hope you got lots of comments. I laughed when I read what you said about "...looks like fun stuff.." LOL
      Yeah, it's fun....but really exhausting...sometimes. All I need is a big break....from a local TV show, or something like that, to lift my spirits more and lift the exhausting, too! :)
  12. Kirkus reviewed my poetry book, WEEDS. They posted it, and so did I. Part of the review is on my cover. If you like poetry, please read my book! I also have a kids book, BEDTIME TAIL. They are on Amazon.
      But I believe that will happen. It just takes time for word of mouth to get around, ya know??
