* FUN NIGHT AT THE LIBRARY! *

A couple of weeks ago I mentioned on Facebook that I had an upcoming event at one of our local libraries, but I don't think I wrote about it on my blog.

The name of my presentation was:

"My Long and Zig-Zaggy Road to Publication
 -Or-
So, You Think You're Too Old to Write?"

It was last night and lots of fun. About 30 in attendance, great questions, laughter at the appropriate times, and sold some books! The Kisker Road Library (branch of the St. Charles City - County Library District) did a great job hosting the event. Thanks to everyone who came!

For once I actually remembered to bring my "real" camera, not just my cell phone, and then forgot to have anyone take any pictures during the talk! Grrr.... I really wanted to have pictures of the table of cookies and coffee, (provided by the library) the table with my books, business cards, and newsletter sign-up sheet, AND most of all...the people!

So, when The Ronald and I were packing up and the last ones to leave, he took these two pictures!
One fairly normal pose, and
one the usual goofy Becky pose!

A week from today, on July 31st, I'll be in Iowa for a book signing! * If you've read my memoir, you'll know the name of the town and why I've loved it for so many years.*

OH, and speaking of Iowa, The Ronald and I will be joining one of our sons tomorrow night to watch one of my favorite movies >>>>>> Field of Dreams.

"Is this Heaven? No...it's Iowa."

* I just found out this morning that I'm featured on The Writers' Lens today. Please hop on over and see how I compare writers' block to solving math word problems! *

  1. So glad you were at least able to get those two pics. The coffee and cookies would be long gone but you are there and that's important.
"Field of Dreams" is one of my very favourite films (sorry movies....that shows how old I am) and not just because of Kevin Costner starring in it. The whole story just makes you feel so warm and fuzzy. Saw it again recently and could probably manage to do so about 4 times each year.

    1. Hi Mimsie! Great to see you here! Yes, I'm glad, too, that we got at least those two pictures. And yes, I think the cookies and coffee interfered quite a bit. In fact, someone who attended said she forgot to come up afterwards and buy my book, because she was distracted by the cookies! LOL
I totally agree with you about "Field of Dreams." I read somewhere that Kevin Costner (supposedly) said that he thinks "Field of Dreams" is this generations' "It's a Wonderful Life." I can pretty much agree with that. It's magical, family-oriented, and as you said, makes me feel "so warm and fuzzy"!

    1. Thank you, Myrna. You are so supportive and caring, but others are probably gagging themselves after reading : "I feel so proud to know a celebrity like you." LOL

    1. Hi Bookie! Yes, we had lots of fun! And you think I look "youthful?" Well, I think if I DO, it's because I smile and laugh a lot. No sad wrinkles...only happy wrinkles!

  6. Glad you had such a good turnout, Becky. And my daughter and I also both like Field of Dreams. I call it a nostalgia kind of movie....like memoirs are.

  7. I love that you had such a successful event. And those who tore themselves away from the cookies to buy your books were the winners. And your book isn't fattening either.

    1. Dear EC ~ You are truly one of my best friends. It's too bad we are half way across the world from each other, and yet it shows how small those miles are when it comes to staying in touch. Thank you, thank you!

  8. That sounds like quite a successful book signing. One of my high school classmates had one at our local library, and I only saw seven people. Three were all in one family, who bought one book and had it inscribed to each of them. Two were me and my son. Then there was the writer's former student who crowded me away from chatting with him. And one lady who may or may not have been there to see him, but was sitting in his section reading a book.

    1. Hi Geo! Yep, one of the best movie lines...ever! And Kevin Costner says it so cute....because he's a bit embarrassed, right?!

  11. >>... one of my favorite movies >>>>>> Field of Dreams.

"If you write it, they will buy."

Baseball is my favorite sport to begin with, so I am automatically partial to baseball movies. And I agree, 'Field Of Dreams' is a really good one. (Costner's 'Bull Durham' is a good one, too.)

My favorite though is almost certainly the saddest: 'Bang The Drum Slowly' (Robert De Niro in one of his first roles). Anyone up for a few rounds of 'TEGWAR'?

    1. Hey Stephen T! Great to see you here! Love your quote, too! "If you write it, they will buy." Ha! Uh....I'm sorry to say that I've NEVER seen that movie! I've certainly heard of it, but just never saw it. Guess I better rent it, huh?! And I love all baseball movies, too. Even the goofiest, oldies but goodies!
