* NOSTALGIC SUNDAY *

It's Time for Another Nostalgic Sunday

~~~
This will be a short and sweet Nostalgic Sunday, since it's very close to being Monday!
This picture is one of my favorites, partly because it's probably the only one I have of just my brother Mike, and me, and our dad. But also because we were so happy then. It was Christmas Day approximately 1960. Looks like we were getting ready to go to Mass, or just got home. I vividly remember my outfit, I guess because I loved it so much! It was a gray jumper with a pink blouse. To this day, I still love pink and gray together. Mike is holding his new Chess For Beginners game, and I'm holding my much loved Colorforms! And what is our dad doing? Reading the newspaper, not paying a bit of attention. SO TYPICAL! And he's wearing what I affectionately refer to as his "Barney Fife suit!"....I wonder what's the deal with he and Mike wearing white socks with their suits??
Ahh, such a happy time in my life that ended way too soon......
Happy 2016 everyone! May this be a year of doors opening and blissful encounters for all!
  2. Awww Becky, beautiful memories. Typical dad of those times, hey? I need to re-read your autobiography (I have it on Kindle, yay!) What is/was Colorform? One of my favorite outfits for winter is a soft grey flannel pants with a pink pullover - baby pink. HAPPY 2016 to you! Blessings Jo
    1. Sweet Jo! Most of the Colorforms were kind of like paper dolls, but they were a plastic/vinyl material. I found a video just now on You Tube that is a commercial for the EXACT set I'm holding! It's the one I wanted and it's not "dressing a doll with clothes," but it's setting the table, or putting things in cupboards, etc. It's called Miss Cookie's Kitchen! Hopefully this link will work: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cQNiX6tw96o
    Love that photo. And am very fond of pink and grey (galah colours) myself.
  4. Lovely photo, Dads did a lot of newspaper reading back then, not as 'hands-on' with raising kids as they are these days.
    I've never understood white socks with suits and I still see that sometimes here in Adelaide.
    I like the pink/grey combination too, I used to own a dress in soft pink and grey stripes, it had a pink belt so I bought matching shoes and bag, then bought the same accessories in the grey. Now I don't even own any dresses.
    1. Hi River! You are so right about the way dads were back then, and how they are now! Your pink and gray outfit with matching bag and shoes sounds lovely! I know what you mean, too, about not wearing dresses nowdays. I have a couple in my closet, but couldn't even say when I last wore one!
  6. Hi Becky,
    I can see why you love the photo! You look so cute and it captures such a special moment with you and your brother and your dad. It would be wonderful if your mom could be in the picture too, although if she was like my mom, she was the one taking the photos with her Brownie camera.
    And I love pink and gray together too!
    Wishing you a peaceful and prosperous new year!
    1. Hi Donna! Thanks so much for your lovely comment! I'm pretty sure my mother would've been the person taking the picture...and yes, with a Brownie camera!
  9. BECKY-O! ~
    That picture truly is a keeper (as my Ma would say). Your Dad looks SO-OOO 1950s. And did Barney Fife ever find out that your Dad stole his "salt and pepper"?
    I too love the combination of pink and grey. Pink and black, too! As a matter of fact, pink is my 3rd favorite color. You would never have guessed that, right? And yet red is my least favorite. Go figure, eh?
    Me quoting me here:
    "My work schedule just changed from 62.5 hours per week to 37.5. All hours worked in 3 days, so that gives me 4 days off every week (barring emergencies or unforeseen crapola). I should soon be more current with my correspondence, visitations and comments."
    1. Stephen T! ~ Thanks for all your fabulous comments. Yes, I wonder what old Barney thought of my dad's suit! Okay..if pink is your 3rd favorite color, what are the first two?? AND I'm SO glad to hear about your work hours being reduced to a "more normal" week. Hope you're feeling great!
