How many of you know about and/or read the magazine Real Simple ?

I have subscribed to it off and on and I really like it. It's always full of great ideas for every part of your life, and also recipes for those with more of a "gourmet talent" than I have! (And the pictures are nice to look at!)

Anyway...just today it popped into my head that I hadn't seen or heard anything about Real Simple's Annual Life Lessons Essay Contest. I remembered it was in the fall, so I went to their website, and voila'....there it was - - -

Here is this year's question:
What was the most dramatic change you ever had to make?

Wow, can it already be the NINTH Annual?? I entered the contest a time or two, but always at the last minute, knowing even before I hit the Submit button that my essay wasn't anywhere near the quality of writing that was required.

There's still time! Here are four reasons why you should enter this contest!

1) It's FREE to enter.

2) The first place winner receives $3,000!

3)  The second-place winner will receive $750.

4)  The third-place winner will receive $500.

So, those of you who can whip up an essay in 1,500 words or less, and submit it online by 11:50 P.M. ET on September 19, 2016 (that's next Monday!)....give it a try!

I wish everyone the best of luck!

...or whatever your writerly drink of choice is!

  1. I've never heard of that magazine, it must be USA only, so I'm guessing the competition is also USA only.
    Good luck with your entry.

  2. Thanks for the tip! Even with the advance notice, I'll probably start mine around 11:50 p.m. on Sept 18. I seem to have a time management problem.

  3. >>... or whatever your writerly drink of choice is!

In my early twenties I developed the habit of drinking Kahlua & milk when writing. The alcohol in the Kahlua would relax me, while the caffeine in the Kahlua would get me wired so I could stay up for hours and hours. It wasn't unusual for me to be typing away like mad on my old manual typewriter at 3:00 AM with Bob Dylan, Simon & Garfunkel, or Rickie Lee Jones singing in the background.

  4. Go Becky Go! You'll post it here so we can read it too, yes?

  5. Thanks. You would think cancer would be a huge change and it is, but I can't think of any unique twist on it to write. Love your knew picture in pink!

  6. It's always coffee o'clock. Hmm....I shall have to think about that contest. Biggest most dramatic change.......gosh what to choose from...moving, marriage, parenthood, death of parents,, retirement..grand parenthood....so many choices.

  7. Thanks for the info, but it seems writing anything new has been off my radar for a while. Revise, revise, revise. That's all I do now.

I'm still getting quite a few spam comments that are Anonymous, so I'm trying "User with Google Accounts." If anyone tries to comment that I know, and it won't let you, send me an email, okay? Thanks so much.
