* Nostalgic Sundays *

I haven't thought about my "Nostalgic Sundays" blog posts in such a long time, but just this moment when I wondered what I would write about tonight...it came to me 😀 (Most of this was written ON Sunday!)

It's Time for Another Nostalgic Sunday!

I feel a little bad because it's been almost a month since my last post and I'd promised myself that I was going to blog regularly again...Hmm, what are my excuses??

1) Well, one excuse is that I gobbled up another great book! The Headmaster's Wife, by Thomas Christopher Greene. There are 3 or 4 other novels with the exact same title, so if you're thinking about reading it, make sure you get the one by THIS author! (I never read much of the book reviews of a book or the inside flap, etc. before I begin it, because too many times it tells me too much about the plot.)

This was another page-turner and had at least one "jaw dropping" moment! If anyone reads it, I'd love to know your thoughts.

2) Another excuse is because I worked 4 days last week instead of my usual 2 days and I was exhausted every evening. I have a long commute, which is "okay" for 2 days, but not 4. Ha Ha!

3) I've been helping Ron a little with our renovations. He does all the hard work and sometimes I hand him a hammer, screw driver, etc! 😊

4) Charlie and I are still enjoying quite a bit of time on our porch. He wants to go out there all the time, even when it's a bit too cold for me! I do cover up with a blanket sometimes. I need to get a little heater and lamp for it because that would help a lot, to read and/or write!

*Being in the screened-in porch always makes me VERY nostalgic. Especially when the crickets are chirping and I hear the sound of a train in the distance. I close my eyes and I'm about six years old again, sitting on my grandma's screened-in porch in Greenfield, Iowa. I would love to go back to those days...*

“It shocks me how I wish for...what is lost and cannot come back.” -- Sue Monk Kidd, Traveling With Pomegranates: A Mother-Daughter Story

Wishing everyone a happy and safe week.

Here's a couple of photos from a couple of years ago.
I never get tired of looking at autumn leaves...

or reading beautiful words about autumn.

"A few days ago I walked along the edge of the lake and was treated to the crunch and rustle of leaves with each step I made. The acoustics of this season are different and all sounds, no matter how hushed, are as crisp as autumn air." - Eric Sloane

  1. I call the autumn leaves arboreal fireworks and never, every get tired of marvelling at them.

    1. Lovely words describing the leaves, EC. I never get tired of them, either. When I'm driving, sometimes I'll pass some trees that are just so magnificent, I gasp!

  2. Sundays growing up included going to Mass, then to a bakery to get some sugared donuts, driving around town looking at houses etc. Usually included driving through Jones Park in East St Louis, Illinois and stopping at the fountain watching the colors change on the lights in the fountain. Seems like yesterday.

    1. Mary, I'm so glad you stopped to comment and I love your memories about Sundays. They are very similar to mine. It WAS such a lovely and simpler time, and they seem like yesterday to me as well.

  3. I enjoy fall walks. The colors, the sights, the sounds and smells are vivid. Wish I had a screened in porch. Enjoy your day.

    1. We both love the same things, Linda! I wish you had a screened-in porch, too, Linda. But you can come out and visit with me anytime! (Soon we'll have a heater in it!)

    1. Hi Mevely317! Thanks, I love being back to blogging, but still struggling to do it consistently. And the quote from Sue Monk Kidd "gets" to me every time I read it.

  5. I love a screened in porch for many reasons. It's relaxing, nature-friendly, and bug-free. Who could ask for more?

  6. I'm glad you found the time to do a blog post! I miss the days when you and I both blogged regularly, as at least we communicated through our comments. I am trying to be more intentional with blogging, but it's not always easy to find the time.

Sounds like an interesting book. I am going to put it on my Goodreads list.

Awesome quote by Sue Monk Kidd.

    Blessings to you,
    Patti

  7. Hi Becky, I started over blogging in August, and noticed on your sideboard it’s been 5 weeks since I posted. It seems like life gets in the road sometimes. I love autumn also, especially the beautiful colorful leaves. I, too, have an enclosed porch with a small heater for this time of the year. I love reading there. Until the next time, Be Happy, Don’t Worry! 🥳

    1. Oh, Gigi Ann, how wonderful that you have a porch you enjoy, too. I love reading in mine, too. Wishing us both "Good Blogging!"

  8. We all have periods of time that "life" gets in the way of blogging, but those of us who truly love blogging always seems to find our way back to it. The autumn trees remind me of those of my childhood (Maine) and make me homesick, but only momentarily because when I open my eyes I realize fall in Maine means winter is right around the corner and winter means snow and ice and I'm thankful I live in Florida! lol

    1. Hi Mildred! Thanks so much for stopping and commenting! I understand about the autumn leaves making you homesick, and I also understand you're glad you live in Florida! I've always lived in an area of all 4 seasons, and don't think I'd do well in other climates. I'm just a Midwest Gal!
