*Does that make any sense at all?!* 3:00 pm CDT 7/6/10
It's "Tea Cup Tuesday". I'm joining Martha's Favorites and Terri's Artful Affirmations and Lady Katherine's Tea Parlor. Thank you so much for inviting me to share my tea cups!
I'm truly excited to show one of my recent finds at the Antique Mall near my home. I think this particular set is so unique. First of all, it's not pink! It's a lovely golden yellow, on a white background, trimmed in gold.
Also, the edges of both the cup and saucer are slightly scalloped, which adds even more beauty, I think.
The "back" side of the cup has just the one flower bud .
And the Pièce de résistance is....................photo below.............
THE BOTTOM OF THE SAUCER STILL HAS THE "KRESGE" PRICE TAG OF 49¢
Isn't that hilarious?? I think if I were the owner, I would've removed that before I attempted to sell it! How many of you are familiar with the old Kresge stores?? We had them in St. Louis when I was really young. They were similar to Woolworth's.....kind of a small discount/department store, before there were K-Marts and such. (I think the same man, Mr. Kresge, also owned K-Mart.)
I paid $4.99 for the set, but I would've paid a lot more, just because I loved the old-fashioned price tag!!

Hey, Becky, I am with you on that price tag. Isn't that great! Wow, talk about a time machine! Lovely cup too...the yellow and white are so quiet and soothing...nice find!

Hi Becky ... thank you for the last two posts. I don't know if this will go through, but I love your teacup and how you photographed it. And, thank you for all the links. I'll need to check those out, esp. the photography ones. I hope your boy is feeling better.

This is lovely. I always love yellow teacups. The price tag made me smile. But $4.99 is still quite the bargain. Take care.
ReplyDeleteHi Becky - I do remember Kresge! So many stores long gone...remember Zayre?
ReplyDeleteYes, we had Kresge stores here too !!The Kresge 5&dime stores were the precursor of KMart. They turned into the current day Kmarts!!
ReplyDeleteLove the beautiful tea cup. With the Kresge sticker on it, it is a true piece of Americanna. We also had a Woolworth's. It was right next to Kresge's!!!
Debbie
I agree! It's beautiful, but that price tag is the secret pièce de résistance!
ReplyDeleteHow fun about the price tag. Gives you a sense of history. Lovely tea cup. Tea cups evoke elegance and relaxation at the same time.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for telling us about Blogger's hissy fit. I thought it was me. None of my comments "took" and nobody commented on my blog yesterday (except an anonymous troll who somehow got around Blogger's problem.) I hope this posts.
Cute cup and only 49 cents. Wow, those days are long gone now!
ReplyDeleteLove,
Susan and Bentley
xxoo
Becky that just too precious and just goes to show that beauty, real beauty is priceless!
ReplyDeleteI love the yellow (mine is yellow this week also) and flowers and gardens are a passion of mine so this was a delight to see! Thanks...

Aloha Becky;
ReplyDeleteI've enjoyed my visit with you today. Your teacup is beautiful; what a price! This is the first Teacup day for me. The first time I posted as a regular post (6/21);got absolutely no hits,LOL. Duh! I think I've got it now.
Before I forget to mention, you're a great writer with a witty sense of humor.
That is hilarious! 49 cents! Well, at least you know it is likely from the 60's. (And yes, I do remember Kresges)
ReplyDeleteIt is a really beautiful cup. Such pretty yellow flowers. What a great find.
Hugs,
Terri
Wonderful cup and saucer. And yes, I do remember Kresge's. Does that make me an antique?

What a lovely teacup - pretty shape and flowers. That Kresge sticker is great. I think they were around when I was growing up in Canada.
ReplyDeleteYour cup is very pretty. Seems like several of us today are showcasing yellow cups.
ReplyDeleteI remember Kresge. I lived in Pittsburgh, PA until I was 15, and we had them there. Can you believe...49 cents for a beautiful teacup.
I discovered a beautiful lily of the valley teacup yesterday at a thrift store....25 cents. Its saucer wasn't with it, but for 25 cents I couldn't pass it up...and who knows, maybe I'll discover the saucer one day.
Have a lovely day,
Patti (Fill My Cup with Beauty)
