** A September Sunday Night **

I experienced some Big Things today.

                                      I enjoyed autumn-like weather! Yay!

My St. Louis Rams WON a football game!! Woo-Hoo!

I told my publisher I wouldn't have my book completed before the end of this year and she was perfectly okay with that! Whew!

My sister was released from the hospital and sent home! Yippee!

Notice I posted these in the opposite order of importance....although my sister and my publisher were hard to choose between...Just Kidding!!   BUT, I've been struggling, AGAIN, with staying focused, slipping in and out of The Zone, feeling inadequate....all those writer issues. I know it happens to ALL writers, famous and/or totally unknown, but it hadn't happened to me in quite a while. So, I finally "gave myself permission" to take a break from writing. I haven't spent more than a fleeting second or two even thinking about my book. I've turned to other interests that I hadn't been paying any attention to...making some greeting cards AND reading more! I also want to enter some writing contests (look out Sioux here I come!) and submit to all kinds of other publications. THAT should really help get my creative juices flowing again.

I still haven't talked to my sister, but have been kept up to date talking with my two adult nieces. I'll definitely call Marian tomorrow! If she says she wants me to come and stay awhile, you can bet I'll be hopping on a plane to Atlanta! Look out all my Atlanta-area blog friends!! I may be giving you a call, too!

Have a fabulously, blissful week y'all!

  1. Today I wrote my first magpie tale (are you familiar with the site?) thanks to your encouraging contest, I earned the confidence to post a tale based on one of their weekly prompts - check my blog if you have the chance, I would love your opinion!! Next challege? Sioux's contest - I have some ideas but haven't quite nailed down the one. I am happy for all the good things that happened to you today! what a great way to start the week! - sending good vibes to you to spice-up your writing mojo. ;-)

  2. Becky---I think you're very wise to not force the completion of your book before its time. It's kind of like cooking spaghetti sauce or stew or chili for too-short a time; if it doesn't get a chance to simmer, and sit (for the flavors to marry and mingle) and resimmer, it won't be as rich as it could be.

Also, probably when you aren't planning for it to happen, you'll be drawn back to your book, just because contests and other projects will inspire you or jar you into picking up where you left off.

I'm not a football fan, so I can't hoop and holler with you about the Rams, but I AM glad your sister is doing better.

  5. That's wonderful news that your sister is home. I'm sure that is a major weight lifted from your mind.

I'm taking a long weekend to refuel my writing too! Sounds like great minds think alike. :)

  6. I'm in the opposite mode right now, Becky-I'm so engrossed in my manuscript, that's all I want to write! (And that's all I've been writing, unless you count comments on blog posts. Do those count?)

Anyway, if you're in the ATL, call! I'd LOVE a coffee break, okay? (I'll make Lisa drive-she has a fabulous sense of direction! :-)

  7. Hey Becky, I was excited the Rams won too. Hopefully, Steven Jackson won't be out for too long.

Also, I love your fall theme. This is definitely my favorite time of the year.

  8. Sounds like there's a lot going on in several different areas! Don't worry about the comings and goings of the Zone. Think of not writing as preparing to write!

  13. Am so glad your sister's better! And I agree with everyone else. You are too well-rounded to focus solely on that one area for too long. I can see how it would throw your balance off!

  14. Hey Becky - Sounds like you're in a good place right now. So glad your sis is better! That means you have to come visit now. I'll be happy to drive myself and Cathy to wherever suits you. I don't know about my sense of direction (my internal compass is usually broken) but my GPS won't let us down. :)
