I don't think I've mentioned publicly, here on my blog, that I have a terrible short-term memory. It's not just terrible. It's awful, horrendous, ridiculous and downright embarrassing! (Good thing my long-term memory is in great shape...considering the fact that I'm writing my memoir!)
I once forgot to meet a friend for lunch. Yeah....me and food and a friend....I forgot! I even had it written on my kitchen calendar. For some reason, I was really lazy that morning and stayed in my jammies. I watched TV and just lounged around the family room. Around noon, my cell phone rang. When I saw my friend's name as the incoming call, that's when the load of bricks hit me. OMG! What was I to say? I forgot?? I was SO embarrassed, but fortunately this particular friend was very understanding. Whew!
Lucky for me, I haven't done anything quite that bad since. Sometimes, I still forget to answer e-mails, totally misplace notes I've written to myself, miss writing deadlines, forget to enter blog contests, etc. So, if you haven't heard from me in an amount of time that seems etiquettely correct.....please contact me and let me know that I've once again, screwed up.
I'd also forgotten that (most likely due to my low energy level) I can't be on the go for more than one day at a time. (another one of my favorite old sitcoms!) And since I forgot that little fact, the same thing happened to me today that always happens......I had a very busy Monday and Tuesday.....and so today, I was pretty much totally worthless. Ahhh, but tomorrow is another day!
Two Announcements: Welcome new follower Joe Mirakev! Hey Joe, Whadda'ya know?! Joe is a new friend from Saturday Writers. He's a fun guy, and I can't wait to read some of his writings! It appears he's just started his blog, too, so congratulations, Joe!
Speaking of blogs: Another friend from Saturday Writers, Bea Siros, has just joined the blogging world, too! Yay for Bea! (Soon, you'll both discover how addictive it can be. Bwa ha ha ha!)

hmm.... I forgot what I was going to say!
ReplyDeleteOMG I've done that in the past too. What an awful feeling it is! My fear now is that I'll forget that I'm suppose to be at my daughter's to watch her kids and I'm off somewhere else having a grand time; ooh.
ReplyDeleteHugs to you.
My memory gets worse with every passing day...

I have a terrible short-term memory too, which is why I have lots of lists and post-it notes. LOL.
ReplyDeleteNow what was I supposed to be doing?
My memory is bad, too. I have lots of "load of brick" moments...
ReplyDeleteConfession time: Sometimes, I use "I forgot" as my excuse for not doing something - even when I haven't forgotten about the thing I was supposed to do.
ReplyDeleteI fear losing my memory...because it is really good right now.
ReplyDeleteWell I have some 'flowers' for you! LOL!! I have seen my memory go from very good to, huh, now what did I come in here for?? I write myself notes all the time, now if I can just remember to read my notes!!
ReplyDeleteI can do up to two days of activity then I'm down for a day. I was thinking what is wrong with me? Then I remember I'm getting older...ugh...not fun!
Your comment suggesting blogging is an addiction is so correct! Not only do you want to post which takes time, you want to read favorites and then comment, more time. Then if you aren't careful you sneak over to some blog mentioned on the blogs you read and from there they lead you to "just one more". First thing you know, it is like a set of Russian nesting dolls and you are lost in a forest of blogs!
ReplyDeleteThanks for reading and commenting on my own blogs last night, Becky. While several of my readers won't comment but do write me emails, I miss the comments.I begin to get paranoid that I have said something offensive to someone I don't even know if no one comments. Or, are my tea cup readers bored by writing talk?...or are writers bored by talk of tea flavors and brewing? Maybe I should leave out my personal life...or maybe I should not be trying to make tea converts. Ha, then to my confusion, like you, I have to add my own forgetfulness and wonder what DID I say last week?
Ah, the joys of blogging. Today I am going to book club. We have read The Postmissress for October. I enjoyed this novel because I love WWII time periods. It is a beautiful day for an outing...enjoy your October day and don't worry about forgetting a thing!
I have memory problems too. Also, I was so glad to hear someone admit that after two days of activity, they are tired. I'm definitely like that, but so many of my friends are extremely energetic. It was making me feel odd.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it funny...I might not remember what I had for dinner two nights ago, but I can DISTINCTLY remember TONS of things from way back in the 1960's. While the long-term memory is in great shape, my short-term memory, like yours, just aint' what she used to be!!
ReplyDeleteInterestingly, I react similarly to too many busy days. From about 1993 until 2004, I ran like the Energizer Bunny. You know...going and going and going. I seldom slowed down, and as a result, I was majorly stressed. Eventually, my health deteriorated, and it was only by slowing down my life that I regained my health. Even now, if I am stupid enough (or forgetful enough) to run around too many days in a row, my body will rebel, and I'll have headaches, joint pains, breathing difficulties, etc. I've learned that I enjoy life more when I take it at a slower pace.
Have a good day.
Hugs,
Patti
You are not alone in your forgetfulness. I write notes to remind me and don't remember writing them until the lost notes surface later.
ReplyDeleteI think we all get forgetful sometimes. I have to write myself notes all the time to keep track of things.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the shout-out Becky! I have to actively NOT blog now. Look at all these forgetful people commenting on your post. You are lucky they remember you at all! : )
ReplyDeleteMemory Advice *USE AT YOUR OWN RISK*
While getting older can affect memory loss, problems with memory are usually nutritional or the result of medication interaction. You can usually suspect the latter if it is short term memory issue. Make sure your doctor knows what is going on. If you are more the self medicating type then here are some herbal remedies such as Fish Oil(DHA AND EPA approved)and Magnesium. Creatine isn't just for bodybuilders since it has been shown to improve short term memory as well. Hawthorne works well but can lower blood pressure too. Gingko also works for memory if you aren't allergic to poison ivy. If you are alergic or on blood thinners stay away from Gingko.
Hrmm...I think I'm feeling chatty today.
I have the same short term memory you do - and long term spelling loss! sandie
ReplyDeleteHi Becky, that's why I keep lists and notebooks all around the house.
ReplyDeleteOnce upon a time, I remembered everything. Now I know better. Some things are better off forgotten.
ReplyDeleteLove your quote! Good words to live by. :)
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful weekend,
Karen
Hi Becky, your comment made me smile, I loved it.
ReplyDeleteFireplaces do not look only this way, we also have the cozy look like you mean. In our home we have a cozy one but also this one, it's called Dancing Flames.
Have a most wonderful weekend, sweet Becky xxx
Hi, Becky! Thanks for visiting the Marmelade Gypsy -- I'm really enjoying reading down through your blog. It's clear you follow your bliss and have great joy and humor -- you deliver what you promise! Hope to see you again!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for your visit and your gracious comment. You asked about the store Ross. As far as I know it's a national chain that sells bankrupt and overstock clothing and home decor. It's a fun store. Hope you have one in your area. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteDarn. I think this is contagious. Not sure if you caught it from me or if I caught it from you - ha!
ReplyDeleteMy memories been bad for years. If I don't write something down, I just don't remember. I have a friend from high school, when she calls to tell me about someone we went to school with "I know your not going to remember them but ..." then I have to go look them up in the yearbook lol.
