* Various Thoughts on a Friday Night *

I've had a very productive week, in spite of negative things being thrown my way, testing my fortitude. My optimistic, bliss-following self disappeard for awhile, but I'm baaaccckkkk, stronger than ever! Look out world, I'm ready to kick some butt! (and I mean that in the nicest, kindest way possible!)

* I sat in my local Bread Co. for a while one day and got a lot of editing done on my book.
* I totally de-cluttered and cleaned up our spare bedroom.
* I cleaned out closets and drawers of clothing that hasn't fit me in at least 2 years, and I know never will again! I have a bagful to donate to Goodwill and a bagful to donate to a friend.
* I started the de-clutter and clean up of our loft, which had turned into a large junk room.
* I baked a homemade apple pie today.
* I worked quite a lot on some Saturday Writer stuff. (one of the local writing groups I belong to. I'm the president for 2011, so there's been a lot to do before our first meeting this month)
* I've been reading a memoir by Cynthia Kaplan called Leave the Building Quickly. This book has really helped me zone in on my own writing style and voice. Parts of it are truly "laugh out loud" funny! Just tonight I used up the last of a Barnes & Noble gift card I got for Christmas, by purchasing her first book, Why I'm Like This,  another memoir.

Oh, one more thing. I had a light-bulb moment the other day and decided that I will purchase one book a month, from my blog writer friends who have a book published! My first one, for January, is Katie Gates' The Somebody Who. Katie has posted chapters from it on her blog from time to time and I know it'll be a great book.

I have a note around here somewhere, with the names of two or three others whose books I want to buy, but I can't find it at the moment! Don't worry, I'm sure it will turn up before February rolls around.

Happy reading and writing everyone! What books are you reading now? What are you writing?

  1. Wow, you have been moving! Good for you. Just reading your enthusiasm will inspire others and me to get moving too. I am ready; it is just my mind seems stuck. I am still working at it though.

And doesn't that clean closet feel good? Something like that lets us SEE where we have been with our efforts, fires us up more.

    Enjoy your weekend...winter will pass!

  2. I'm hoping for a little inspiration myself. Seems like there's always so much going on that every good intention I have gets dropped faster than a cell phone call in a subway.

  5. Becky,

You GO girlfriend! Yay and good for you! I'm glad that things are looking up, and that you have a clean house to boot.

I have reorganize my creative room/office today so I can figure how my sewing projects.

Have a wonderful weekend, my friend.

  6. Whew! You've been a whirlwind!! I can feel the energy in your words.

I need to get myself moving, too. I've been so reflective lately that I'm about to fade into oblivion. And all I'm writing is funeral poetry.

But life goes on...and soon, I will follow suit.

    (Thanks for the inspiration.)

    =)

  8. Becky I am so glad you have gotten out of your funk and got your groove back! Now I need that same thing! I'm just down....maybe this snow and being stuck in the house? I should have done so much cleaning and de-cluttering but instead stayed on the computer, reading and watching TV...the sun is shining so maybe I will get inspired!

  10. Dear Becky...Congratulations on all you got done! Wowsers.

Right now I'm reading an inspirational book by Jerry Posner titled something like: "Late Bloomer: You Are Right On Time." I don't have it in front of me to give the exact right title but that's similar. It's pretty good.

As for writing, well, Becky, I want to do a LOT more e-book, e-magazine submissions. The challenger is finding the markets that accept freelance material.

I also continually work on my life's Self-Discovery Journal...magazine page cut-outs, modeled after Sarah Brechnach's (SP?) "Simple Abundance." It's a work-in-progress and sheer delight to work on.

Take good care, Becky. By the way, do you still have YOUR book available to buy? Let me know, would you? Thanks. Sincerely, Susan

  11. Rock on, Becky! Would you mind spiking my coffee with a shot of your motivation? Oh, and a shot of your energy??? Good for you; it's always a great feeling to get things accomplished. I LOVE drawing that line over the items on my "to-do" list. (Dang it, I don't see that many lines right now...)

Hmmm, apple pie? Soungs good; I'm inviting myself over. I'll see you shortly.

  12. Hi Bookie! Thanks! And you are so right about SEEING the results of our work. It's good to do some of that physical work, especially when we can't always see the results of our writing, or other creative endeavors...not right away, anyway!

  13. Hi Pat! I LOVE your comparison! :)

Thank YOU, sweet Saskia! We are enjoying cold and wintry weather!

Hi Myrna! I have confidence that you will definitely have a book completed and published someday soon, and I'll buy one from you!

Hi Kathy! Thanks! And good for you for doing some organizing, too!

Hi Sue! Thank you for your sweet comments. I know the funeral poem has not been a fun thing to do. I know your usual muse will return soon, though.

    Hey Chatty/Sandie! Thanks...but it wasn't in one day...it was a week! I'm not that super of a woman! :)

Hi Linda! Thanks! And I can understand your lack of energy and desire to do much of anything. Being "snowed in" in The South just isn't right!! You'll get it back, too.

Hi Faith Hope Cherrytea! Thanks for sharing what you're reading and thanks, too, for being happy for me!

Hi Susan! The book you mentioned sounded like something I'd enjoy, so I looked it up. Here's the title, for anyone else who might be interested: "Attention Late Bloomers: You're Right on Time". I'd forgotten about your Self-Discovery Journal. I think that is the neatest idea! I want to start one of those, too! And there's always places to submit your writing! I've posted sites on my blog, and many of my writer/blog friends do the same. Send me an e-mail and we can go over it!And lastly, by MY book, did you mean the Thin Threads anthology I'm selling?

Hey Paul Joseph! I laughed out loud at your comments! You haven't read my blog long enough to know that my spurts of energy are usually few and far between! I really think I was born with a low energy level. Glad I could inspire you somewhat(!?) And honestly, I don't have enough of those crossed out things-to-do, either.Sorry, you're already too late for the apple pie. The Ronald and I have almost eaten the whole thing already! :D

  15. I am exhausted from all you've gotten done. I may need a nap now.

I am going out to a coffee shop today to write in public. I've never done this before. *shaking in my fluffy houseshoes*

I'm reading Ann Rice right now. It's been a while since I read her. I just finished Craig Ferguson's novel which was quite interesting.

  16. Hey, thanks for asking, Becky! I'm writing poetry, and I just finished reading Departure Time by Truus Matti. Highly recommended. Rereading Ginger Pye (Newbery Award a long time ago) and All Alone in The Universe by Lynne Rae Perkins, and, of, some silliness called Quantum Physics

  17. Susan, you are so welcome.

Nessa, Good for you for going somewhere else to write! I kept saying I was going to do that, but never did. It really worked for me, and I plan on doing it a couple times a week, at least! Let me know how it goes!

  21. Wow, you have been busy! My 2011 started slow and lazy, not the USUAL me but you've inspired me to GET GOING! I kind of have an excuse though. We had kids home for a visit and they just left for China so we focused on family time.

Now it's time to de-clutter and get walking for exercise!

  22. Hi Sandy! I remember reading on your blog about your family, and China! Wow! Cool stuff! I need to add walking/exercise to my list, too....but right now there's no room! LOL

  23. Great list - sounds like you have a load of energy right now :D And I love the idea of regularly buying a book from an author you know, I should totally do that, too :)
