We added a new member to our family today. We adopted an 8 year old sweetheart from the Heartland Humane Society. He's a Lab mix and his name is VERN! He is the sweetest, laid back dog and he's perfect for what we wanted! Yes, he likes to get up on the couch and yes, we let him! (*We found out a little later that Vern is actually 9-1/2 years old, but that's okay, too!*)
It will be 3 months ago tomorrow that we had to say good bye to Tiger-Gal. I've missed her so much and I'm so glad I finally was ready to accept another dog into my heart and home. Can you see me smiling while I type these words?!
"Old dogs, like old shoes, are comfortable. They might be a bit out of shape and a little worn around the edges, but they fit well." -- Bonnie Wilcox 'Old Dogs, Old Friends'
Congrats Mama! I am so glad you found the right guy to come into your home and your heart! He looks very sweet! I am so happy for you! hugs, LInda
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your new addition. He looks sweet. I'm glad that you got such a sweet dog and that he can lay on your sofa - so can our Disco. sandie
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! I'm glad Vern approved of you guys as his new family!
ReplyDeleteBecky, Becky, Becky - I LOVED this post! I had to click on it when I saw it on Writing Straight From the Heart's sidebar! Vern is just SO handsome and SO lucky to have found his forever home! We had a 10 year old mutt join our family in November, and our last two dogs, a shepherd/lab mix and a terrier mix were 7 and 8 years old when they were adopted. Old dogs are the BEST! They've outgrown all their ''destructive'' behavior (haha) and are normally housebroken. And being pound dogs, they are so grateful for their new homes.
ReplyDeleteAnyhow, I just had to come on over and say hello and let you know that Vern is GORGEOUS!!!.. Donna
I'm so happy for you. He looks like he'll be a wonderful companion. I too am enjoying my new addition - Leroy.
ReplyDeleteThat was so nice and sweet that you adopted an older dog. He looks beautiful. Great addition to your family.
ReplyDeleteHow sweet! He looks like he'll be a good companion. :)
ReplyDeleteHappy weekend,
Karen

ReplyDeleteI am so happy for you, Becky. Vern is one lucky dog! I am sure we will soon be getting some dog tales. Give Vern a hug for me!

ReplyDeleteWishing you and Vern many years of loving one another. He looks sweet.
ReplyDeleteVern looks so cute, and he's obviously made himself right at home already, which is great. I'm so glad you felt ready to share your heart and your home with this new arrival.
ReplyDeleteAw..he's so sweet looking. I'm happy for you, Becky. I'm sure he will be a wonderful companion for you.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to all of you for finding each other! Hope I get to meet him in person soon. And that quote couldn't be any more perfect. Can you hear ME smiling?!

ReplyDeleteHi Becky,
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweetie! I'm so happy you have welcomed a new pet into your home. Vern is adorable. I know how hard it has been for you the past couple months, and Vern looks like just the right match for you.
Congratulations!
Donna
Yay, Becky! Yay to Vern, too! I hope he knows how much he'll be spoiled!
ReplyDeleteI know you miss your dear Tiger girl, but I'm so glad your heart was open to Vern. I'm sure he will enjoy a good life in your family and that he will bring lots of love and smiles your way.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, I am a beagle freak (have 2 of them), so I'm partial to anything with beagle blood in it...though I don't see much beagle in that guy. He's definitely a cutie, though.
Love,
Patti
Coop says, "Hello Vern!"
ReplyDeleteLooks like he's nice and comfortable already. :)
You're mighty brave. I've lost too many pets at this point. I refuse to take on any more because I cant' bear to stand and watch any more leave me. They become too special. Good luck to you and your new fellow.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great post and picture! Tiger girl's memory is honored by your acceptance and love for a new doggie... one that NEEDS you and a forever home soooo much! I volunteer at the Austin Humane Society and I just love the organization. Your quote about old dogs is one of my favorites!!
ReplyDeleteTiger is smiling her approval. Congratulations to you and to Vern. Looks like you both lucked out in the "love to share" department. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm happy for you, Becky. Vern is one lucky fella to have you for his human Mama! Susan
ReplyDeleteCongrats to you! Vern sure is one lucky pooch to be welcomed into a loving family. A win-win for all involved! Enjoy your furry companion. Best wishes and blessings, Tammy
ReplyDeleteVern looks like the perfect doggie for you. I know you'll all be happy together! Congrats!
ReplyDeleteAww, very sweet picture, Becky! Congratulations on this adorable new member of the family. Ter
ReplyDeleteWe got our wonderful cat Pumpkin from Heartland, and think the group does a terrific job of putting great pets and great people together!
ReplyDeleteHe looks like a dog with a very sweet disposition.
ReplyDeleteI'm happy for both of you!
=)
Welcome Vern !
ReplyDeleteHe is beautiful and looks so mellow and almost happy :)
Oh, he is soooo cute! Congratulations! I always get teary eyed over adoptions and animal rescues. If animals could talk, can you imagine what they would say about finding a home again?
ReplyDeleteThank you all so, so much! I think 33 comments is a record number for me, and how wonderful that it's about a beautiful dog! I really appreciate all the kind words. Most of you know how sad I was to lose Tiger-Gal. I'm so happy I have Vern now because he and I both needed the love and companionship we share!
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweetheart, and how wonderful of you to give a good home to an older dog. I am so happy for both of you!
ReplyDeleteHe is such a beauty! He looks to be about Harry's size too. (Harry is about 75-80 pounds).
