Snippets of This 'n That:
I've been working on my entry for the Erma Bombeck contest. The deadline is February 14th. That should be easy to remember.Valentine's Day. Word limit is 450 words or less. Entry fee $15.00. Good luck to all the entrants!
I recently came across a fun writing site: Nail Polish Stories. I've submitted one story so far. Here are the submission rules: Each story must be exactly 25 words, title not included. The title must be a nail polish color. Intrigued? Hop on over and check it out.

"You become about as exciting as your food blender. The kids come in, look you in the eye, and ask if anybody's home." -- Erma Bombeck
Oh Becky! I adore Erma Bombeck! I have been rather missing lately from blogland so I have not been keeping up with you I am sorry to say, but good luck with your entry! That sounds like fun! I don't do much writing, but I will pass on this link to my daughter who is writing 2 book simultaneously - one is a prequel to the other - she is 17 and really wants to be a writer! Thanks for the info and hopefully I will be able to chat more soon!
ReplyDeleteNail Polish Stories?? Well, after I hit Publish and put up my politican rant, I wondered if I should have written something a little happier and more colorful--like nail polish?? I'm checkin it out for sure.
ReplyDeleteLoved your comment, and I finally was able to make a comment on MY OWN BLOG, so I published your comment. So far, no negative responses. Whew!!!
Erme Bomback certainly came up with some great posts! Good luck with your entry my friend. Sock it to 'em!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the links. They look interesting. I am curently writing up a travel article, trouble is it is not for the place I have just returned for, but the one I came back from, before that! It's really hard to get my head into gear about Germany when it's full of thoughts about Egypt!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the links, Becky. I'm usually not that succinct, but it's worth a try.
ReplyDeleteHi! Thanks for joining my blog! I'm having problems with my RSS feed or whatever it is, so I'm afraid you won't be notified of new posts, so you'll just have to drop by from time to time and catch up!! Interesting to visit your blog today - I so agree with the quote about 'just get on with it' if you want to write! WRITE!! Look forward to reading more!
ReplyDeleteWhy don't you join us - it's just a bit of fun, but good writing exercise! And tell your blog and writing friends about it too - it's the 100 Word Challenge for Grown-ups. Every week a prompt is set and you have to write a piece that is max 100 words long. Anything on my blog that has the word 'Challenge' in the title has been an 'entry' - many and various! Hope to see you there!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your writing and contests Becky! I love the sound of the nail polish stories~
ReplyDeletehugs, Linda
I would like to be as funny as Erma Bombeck. Actually my husband RVPainter is more Erma than I am. Maybe he should enter...xoxo
ReplyDeleteTo be honest, I haven't submitted one thing since I started blogging. It sort of fills the need, somehow.
ReplyDelete=)
PS. Still, I am going to compile a collection of my Christmas stories sometime soon for submission, and maybe some story poems I've written for my grandkids. When I get around to it, I guess.
Hi Becky,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the links. I'll have to check them out.
Good luck with your Erma entry. I sent mine off last week. I have my fingers crossed for you and Alice and me.
Donna
Good luck on your entry! I'm sure it'll be great!
ReplyDeleteI'm working on a sequel right now. Well, actually, I'm checking blogs, but after yours, I swear I'm going back to writing. LOL
Good luck to you Becky! sandie
ReplyDeleteThank you for stopping over. I wish you success in this contest!
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend.
I'm working on something for the Erma Bombeck contest, too. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteAnd thanks for letting us know about the Nail Polish stories. Sounds fun.
You go, Becky! Good luck on all the contests. I'm writing, reading, and submitting, but all novels.
ReplyDeleteHappy Weekend.
Thanks for tips, Becky. I have done two submissions this last week. One is FAR-FETCHED...but hey, nothing ventured, nothing gained. Seems to me, that NO is still NO whether you are out on a limb or not...just out a little postage.
ReplyDeleteErma Bombeck was such a classic, wasn't she. She had such a vision of the humor in everyday life. Good luck on your entry!
ReplyDeleteIt's Wednesday, silly! *shakes head*
ReplyDelete:)
Thanks for that reminder on the Erma contest. I need to whip up something new for that one. I still have four submissions out to other contests that won't be finished until March.
ReplyDeleteNo Nail Polish stories from me, though. I'm a clear coat kind of gal.
I think you've got what it takes to win the Erma contest. You go girl!
ReplyDeleteThanks for these, sound like fun :)
ReplyDeletePS: I rarely name a day by its actual name nowadays...
