Is It Thursday? I Still Don't Know What Day It Is!

Snippets of This 'n That:

I've been working on my entry for the Erma Bombeck contest. The deadline is February 14th. That should be easy to remember.Valentine's Day. Word limit is 450 words or less. Entry fee $15.00. Good luck to all the entrants!

I recently came across a fun writing site: Nail Polish Stories. I've submitted one story so far. Here are the submission rules: Each story must be exactly 25 words, title not included. The title must be a nail polish color. Intrigued? Hop on over and check it out.

Do you know of The Excuse Editor? If not, you're missing out on LOTS of info for contests and other market news. Tina Haapala does a fabulous job keeping us updated. Sign up now to receive her newsletters!

How about you? Are you writing anything? Submitting anything? Reading anything? I'd love to hear any suggestions you'd like to share!

  1. Oh Becky! I adore Erma Bombeck! I have been rather missing lately from blogland so I have not been keeping up with you I am sorry to say, but good luck with your entry! That sounds like fun! I don't do much writing, but I will pass on this link to my daughter who is writing 2 book simultaneously - one is a prequel to the other - she is 17 and really wants to be a writer! Thanks for the info and hopefully I will be able to chat more soon!

  2. Nail Polish Stories?? Well, after I hit Publish and put up my politican rant, I wondered if I should have written something a little happier and more colorful--like nail polish?? I'm checkin it out for sure.

Loved your comment, and I finally was able to make a comment on MY OWN BLOG, so I published your comment. So far, no negative responses. Whew!!!

  4. Thanks for the links. They look interesting. I am curently writing up a travel article, trouble is it is not for the place I have just returned for, but the one I came back from, before that! It's really hard to get my head into gear about Germany when it's full of thoughts about Egypt!

  5. Thanks for the links, Becky. I'm usually not that succinct, but it's worth a try.

  6. Hi! Thanks for joining my blog! I'm having problems with my RSS feed or whatever it is, so I'm afraid you won't be notified of new posts, so you'll just have to drop by from time to time and catch up!! Interesting to visit your blog today - I so agree with the quote about 'just get on with it' if you want to write! WRITE!! Look forward to reading more!

  7. Why don't you join us - it's just a bit of fun, but good writing exercise! And tell your blog and writing friends about it too - it's the 100 Word Challenge for Grown-ups. Every week a prompt is set and you have to write a piece that is max 100 words long. Anything on my blog that has the word 'Challenge' in the title has been an 'entry' - many and various! Hope to see you there!

  10. To be honest, I haven't submitted one thing since I started blogging. It sort of fills the need, somehow.

    =)

PS. Still, I am going to compile a collection of my Christmas stories sometime soon for submission, and maybe some story poems I've written for my grandkids. When I get around to it, I guess.

  16. Thanks for tips, Becky. I have done two submissions this last week. One is FAR-FETCHED...but hey, nothing ventured, nothing gained. Seems to me, that NO is still NO whether you are out on a limb or not...just out a little postage.

  17. Erma Bombeck was such a classic, wasn't she. She had such a vision of the humor in everyday life. Good luck on your entry!

  19. Thanks for that reminder on the Erma contest. I need to whip up something new for that one. I still have four submissions out to other contests that won't be finished until March.

No Nail Polish stories from me, though. I'm a clear coat kind of gal.

I'm still getting quite a few spam comments that are Anonymous, so I'm trying "User with Google Accounts." If anyone tries to comment that I know, and it won't let you, send me an email, okay? Thanks so much.
