It was a beautiful day and we had a wonderful time as always. She's excited about my book, too. The support and excitement of other people is magical.
Before I left home, I grabbed a couple of CDs to listen to since I was driving farther than my usual 5 mile radius. I was able to hear the entire soundtrack of The Sound of Music. I think it was the first time I've listened to it in my little car, and it surrounded me as if the orchestra and actors were riding along. I turned the volume way up and sang my little heart out, using my

How long has it been since you've heard it? Do you know all the words? I found these on Let's Sing It.
Climb every mountain,
Search high and low,
Follow every byway,
Every path you know.
Climb every mountain,
Ford every stream,
Follow every rainbow,
'Till you find your dream.
A dream that will need
All the love you can give,
Every day of your life
For as long as you live.
Climb every mountain,
Ford every stream,
Follow every rainbow,
Till you find your dream
A dream that will need
All the love you can give,
Every day of your life,
For as long as you live.
Climb every mountain,
Ford every stream,
Follow every rainbow,
Till you find your dream.
These words really spoke to me today. I've been following my dream, and blogging about it, for so long, and to know I've almost reached it is an amazing feeling.
What about your dreams? Are you following the paths to reach them? I hope you are!
Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you have imagined. -- Henry David Thoreau
You said 'I've been following my dream, and blogging about it, for so long, and to know I've almost reached it is an amazing feeling.'
ReplyDeleteWhat you didn't mention was the hard work, the discipline AND the talent which has brought you to this happy place. Congratulations.
It is fun to visit with old friends. That song was usng at my high school graduation, so it really takes me back.
ReplyDeleteStill looking for family stories for Not Your Mother's Book...one more week!
I am so happy that things are going well with your book!
ReplyDeleteSomewhere in your youth or childhood, you must have done something good. :)
Thank you EC! You always leave such wonderful comments...you make my day!
ReplyDeleteHi Linda, Thank you.
Hey Val, Thank you! I really appreciate it. And I love your last line...very smart and funny, just like you!!
I always marvel at the coincidences among blog buddies. We watched that movie this week! We stretched it over 3 nights! We usually just watch something for an hour or so at night and we always choose one of our old movies. We hadn't watched it in years and we are both still humming a medley of these songs! Singing in the car is always fun...and entertaining! HUGS!
ReplyDeleteBECKY ~
ReplyDeletePlease don't ever tell anyone this or I'll lose my "Man Card" fo' sho', but... I likes me 'The Sound Of Music'. (I even own it on DVD. Shhhhh!)
My favorite song from the soundtrack, however, is 'My Favorite Things'. That is probably the most addictive song I've ever heard. I even did a blog bit about it once, mentioning how that song runs through my mind almost constantly from late November through December; it drives me even crazier than I normally am.
CONGRATULATIONS on achieving your dream! I hope everything turns out exactly as you've envisioned it.

You know, I have heard that quote many times in my life, but it never hit me like just now as I read your post. "Live the Life you Imagine!" Wow! What would my life look like if I did?!!! Very different I am sure. I do live some of my dreams, but not the bulk! I think you have stirred me up girl!
ReplyDeleteClimb every mountain is a very powerful affirmative song! I have always loved it.
I wish you the very best with your writing. You have taken the steps to bring your dream into fruition! Yay! You believed in yourself! That is totally awesome!
Hugs,
Terri
"Ford every stream,
ReplyDeleteFollow every rainbow,
Till you find your dream"
So apt. Reading this post has made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside!
You got me in trouble, Becky. I was singing, really, really loud, because that's the only way to sing, you know. And both my husband and son came downstairs to make sure I was okay. When I told them I was singing, they weren't too happy. They stomped upstairs threatening horrible things if I ever sang again. But I'll fix 'em. I'm not serving supper unless they let me sing a song. I have a feeling they'll both be losing a lot of weight for awhile.
ReplyDeleteGreat blog...and I like your under construction web site. Neat.
Hi Becky. So pleased that things are going well with your book. That must make you feel so good! Well done you. Gosh, I have lost track of the number of times I have watched The Sound of Music. My daughters used to watch it all the time when they were growing up. It is such a lovely film, and the music is wonderful - all the songs. Enjoy the rest of the weekend.
ReplyDeleteI've always loved this song. And yes, I have followed my dreams.
ReplyDeleteHappily, the most important ones seem to come true!
=)
Oh, this makes me want to go out and buy the CD ... 'Sound' is hands-down my favorite musical! Even after all these years, a snippet will revisit my mind (and tongue) ... much to my hubby's (and dog's) amusement.
ReplyDeletePS - Aren't olden friends the best?!
Following one's dream is what we all could do... so glad you're following yours!
ReplyDeleteHi Diane! I'm so pleased that this particular blog post resonated with so many wonderful people! Thanks for stopping.
ReplyDeleteStephen, it is always SO good to see your name in my comments, because I know what you've written will be fabulous!! I'm glad you likes you some Sound of Music! You are such a nut!
Terri, your words have given ME inspiration and I truly appreciate your very kind words. And yes...now you should go for some of your dreams! I'm cheering you on!
Awww,Ellie! That is so sweet! Reading your comment did the same for me! :)
Hey Cactus Country Gal! Thank you! I wish somehow I could lose a lot weight because of my own singing! Got any suggestions??
Hi Thisisme! Thank you! I truly believe all of you blog friends have helped me along with this journey of mine.
Wow, Sue! You are so fortunate, or smart, or something...:) I'm really happy for you!
Thank you, dear Mevely! I think all of us should plan a Sound of Music Get-Together...sometime in the near future! :)
Hi Lynn! Thanks. I think you are following your dream(s), too...at least with your writing and blogging. You're such a talented person, is so many ways!
Love this song...so inspiring! And love the movie. I really like the song "Maria" and the part where they sing "How do you solve a problem like Maria? How do you catch a cloud and pin it down?"
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my blog : ) I'm going to look around here. And I understand congratulations are in order on your book!
I love the image of your driving along belting this song out! When I was a kid I loved listening to my mom's records, and she had this soundtrack. I loved playing the record and pretending I was Maria singing "the hills are alive..." Such a great movie and great music.
ReplyDeleteIt was inspiring to me just to read this post, Becky! :)
Such a fabulous song! And I love getting together with OLD friends-- whatever kind of "old" they are. ;)
ReplyDeleteHello Lady Cat! Great to meet you! I love that song, too....I might as well say I love all of them! You should hear me yodel to the Lonely Goatherd! :o
ReplyDeleteHi Julie~ Thanks...and I can just see you being Maria! :)
Hi Peggy, me too! Old Friends!
I remember singing this in 8th grade chorus. Am I horrible to say that I've NEVER watched The Sound of Music?
ReplyDeleteI've never seen Titanic, either...and yet the sun will still rise tomorrow, the tides will turn, and life will go on as it should.
Hey Kim ~ Thanks for stopping and commenting! And you certainly have the right to see or not see any movies or TV shows, etc...just like in reading books. There's so many books that "everyone" should've read by this age in life...but I don't read books that I don't like!
ReplyDeleteDo I know the words? YES, to every song in that movie/play. By heart. :)
ReplyDeleteSo thrilled for you about your book. You've worked hard and look what you've accomplished!
My daughter just watched the movie for the first time, and it brought back a lot of memories for me!
ReplyDeleteYay, Becky! What a perfect song to describe your journey. So glad that you had a fun time with your friend.
ReplyDeleteI think that my dream is very similar to yours ... to write books. It is unfolding and becoming more and more clear to me lately.
Hugs, and congratulations on almost being done with yours!
Kathy M.
I always sang these songs in the car with my kids. They especially liked, "Doh a Deer". Great movie with great sing-a-long songs! ;)
ReplyDeleteGood for you for following and REACHING your dream!
In JOY, sandy
I knew my daughter had chosen her boyfriend well when she brought him home from college. How? Because she asked him to watch The Sound of Music with her and he did! At least he tried so hard though he did fall asleep a time or two. They've been happily married for 16 years but I don't know if he's ever watched it again.
ReplyDeleteOne of the contest categories for Ozark Creative Writers is My Favorite Things sponsored by Linda Apple and inspired by Sound of Music. I love writing for it. Deadline is closed for this year, but hopefully Linda will continue it next year. (I placed 2nd last year!)
ReplyDeleteWell...you and your bloggie make me SMILE! And that is ALWAYS a good thing!
