* NOSTALGIC SUNDAY *

It's Time for Another Nostalgic Sunday

I know, I know it's not even Thanksgiving yet, and believe me I am NOT one to rush Christmas and decorations, etc. But, I'm cleaning out the closet in the bedroom where my desk and laptop is. Attempting to cram as much "things to keep" stuff in it, and get rid of the stuff "I really can let go of."

See, all this has to do with desperately needing to get organized, so I can WRITE and not have clutter stressing me out. That's my biggest "chore" right now. I hate clutter!

So, anyway, I came across this photo taken at an office party in 1984! I was a couple of weeks away from my 32nd birthday in January of '85. OMG, I was so young, slender and cute!....If I do say so myself! Yes, that is a glass of beer in my hand, too! (Ron must've taken this photo because he was at the party with me, of course!)

In my mind, I still feel like that same young woman. I feel as if I look just like that, too. The human brain is so interesting. We all know we will age, and yet when we're young, it seems as if we never will! And then all of a sudden, poof... 20, 30, 40 years go by and we're staring into the mirror at an old, wrinkly person.

I think mirrors should not
be allowed in our Baby Boomer homes!

We could fix our hair and put on make-up,
looking into our rearview car mirror!

  1. Why, you're just a kid! Cute picture, Becky! I was 35 in '85, but yes I looked and felt my best back then.

    So glad you're writing again!

    1. Thanks, Mevely317! I agree about that time period. From 30 yrs old to 50 yrs old, I felt really great and was in good shape...Sometime later, everything went "South"!

  2. Oh man, so true! In my mind I'll always be 32.

    1. Thanks, Trish! I'm curious as to why 32? In my mind, I'm just somewhere in my 30s. I married Ron when I was 30, had our son Mark when I was almost 35. Thirties are wonderful because we're not too young, and not too old! :)

    2. I'd just had my third child and was feeling pretty good about parenthood and life, like wow, this is really cool! I can really do this! But then my dad got very sick in my late thirties and I felt totally unprepared and unqualified to deal with the down sides of life. There was an early adult innocence that I miss - grief and regret hadn't really made an appearance yet.

    3. Thanks for asking, Becky. I hadn't really thought much about the 'why' . . .

  3. Very nice photo with Santa, Becky! Being a little less wrinkly would be a treat as long as I could keep what I've learned over the years.

    1. Hi Pat, Thanks! I agree about not being as naïve as I was many years ago. We just can't seem to have it all together at the right time, can we?!

  4. I was 38 in 1985 and busy bringing up the children. Times seemed good back then, I must say. I'm with you at looking at my face in the mirror. I try not to do that too often! 😳

  5. Mirrors are things to be avoided. At all costs.
Late twenties early thirties were fine. But I wouldn't go back to being a teenager again for anyone.

  6. Ah, January, 1985---what a great month and a great year. That is when I met my husband.

All through my 40's, I wanted to go back to my early 30's. Thankfully, by the time 50 rolled around, I had stopped pining away for my younger days. I'm enjoying these 50-something years, but I sometimes can't believe I am a 50-something now. That used to seem SO old!

By the way, that photo is adorable. And, just so you know, you are still cute!!

    1. Hi Patti - Thanks! I, too, enjoyed even my 50s....but when 60 rolled around...UGH! I don't spend ALL my time pining away for earlier years, but I'm not thrilled with the whole aging thing! And thanks for saying I'm still cute! *blush*

  7. I remember 1985, I was also 32 and my youngest was 4 and beginning kindergarten.
How's the decluttering going? Thrown anything away yet? Or are you lost in memories with each item?

    1. Hi River! Thanks! The decluttering is going very well, I'm happy to say! Usually I get to a point and then quit and it just starts piling up again...I'm mostly going through paperwork and magazines and junk like that. I've pretty much gone through the "memories" type stuff that we brought on this move. Still have some things in storage, though...

  8. There are days I look in the mirror and wonder who that old lady is with her skin fitting like a wrinkled old glove. It's me. sigh. No mirrors...good idea....just keep the illusion of youth.

  9. Oh it ALL goes so fast, Becky! Glad you are cleaning out because less is certainly more as we get older. You will feel so much better without clutter. Your mind and your closets will be free!

  10. You're darling at every age! I won't tell you how old I was in 1985, but I can say that every day I look in my mirror, I expect to see someone in my twenties and get a reality slap in the face when some 50-year-old woman stares back at me!
