I noticed recently that Kathy of "Oregan Gifts of Comfort and Joy" had photos of her decorative chicken collection posted on her blog. It reminded me of when I decorated my kitchen with a chicken motif. It was years ago and in a different house. I had a cute chicken wallpaper border, and a chicken spoon rest and other knick-knacks, but my favorite item, by far, was this gorgeous blue and white cookie jar! It sits proudly on the baker's shelf in the kitchen of my "new" home, which we've lived in for seven years already. I'm so happy that I kept it! (It's probably obvious that Chicky isn't resting on my baker's shelf for this photo! I set her on a chair by a window for a better background.)
*Note: If anyone has manufacturing-type information about this cookie jar, please let me know. I was so sure it was part of the "Auntie Em" Collection by Treasure Craft, but I can't find anything about it. I spent way too much time online last night, searching for photos or info about it. I have an "Auntie Em" Collection spoon rest, with the same colors and a chicken painted on it, that I'm sure I bought at the same time in the 1980's. And I'm pretty sure I purchased them at Dillards. I just cannot believe that I can't find another one like it! I Googled it and looked at all the various sites....but nothing!
I feel so blessed to have "met" so many new friends through my blog. I look forward every morning to reading the newest posts and viewing the newest photos!

That is an adorable cookie jar. Although, I have to say I'm not too fond of chickens when I'm trying to sleep in on the weekends and my neighbor's rooster insists on crowing at 6:30 AM!
ReplyDeleteCute cookie jar! I remember having one during the "smiley face" craze. Big, round and yellow with huge dark eyes and face-splitting smile.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I ever put cookies in it, though. It just sat on the counter looking happy.
Hi Janel! That's funny (to me!) about your neighborhood rooster! It makes me remember summers in Iowa, too, which is always a very happy memory. Thanks for that! :)
ReplyDeleteHi Pat! My chicken cookie jar has never had cookies in it, either! It, too, has always just looked pretty, wherever it happened to perch!
ReplyDeleteOh, it is so cute. Thanks for posting it so we can see her.

Thanks, Kathy! It's funny how when we see something decorative in a photo, or in someone else's home, we remember to appreciate and look more closely at the pretty things we own!
ReplyDeleteHey Chicken Soup Chickie, I like your chicken.
ReplyDeleteThis could give new meaning to cookies, if the jar maks them "taste like chicken."
ReplyDeleteHi Becky,
ReplyDeleteGreat photo of your cooky jar, and I love the quote at the end of your post.
So, is the chicken cooky jar inspiration for writing "Chick Lit?"
Donna
Hey Linda! Sheesh, I can really tell I haven't written anything for, or even thought about, Chicken Soup for the Soul books lately, because the thought behind your comment never entered my mind! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteHi Walt! Love your comment! Funny!!
ReplyDeleteHi Donna! Another appropriate theory!! I've never tried to write Chick Lit, but I can sure give it a try some day! Glad you like the quote!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great cookie jar! It looks like a very happy chicken (who wouldn't be with all those cookies in the belly?) My brother has a wolf cookie jar that howls whenever you lift the head. No secret cookie stealing in his house. Your chicken looks too classy to make noises. :)
ReplyDeleteHi Lisa! Thanks! Oh yeah, no noises come out of my cookie jar!
ReplyDeleteFun, sweet and cute! Love it!
ReplyDeleteHey Tammy! Thanks!! Good to hear from you!
ReplyDeleteThat is one cute chick.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Lynn! Gosh, I never knew something like a cookie jar would get so many comments! :)
ReplyDeleteI just found your blog as I was searching for the Auntie Em chicken cookie jar. You are correct that it is Auntie Em and that it is elusive. I have many other kitchen items from this pattern and different fabrics to match. I wish I had bought the chicken when I saw it at JCPenney in the Chicago area, but it wasn't in the budget. The dishes were wedding gifts in 1988, and i fell in love with the fabrics when I spotted them at a former Piece Goods store in PA. They reminded me of my grandma's yellow chicken kitchen. (There's no place like home, except Grandma's.) I hope your chicken is still happily perched on your shelf.
ReplyDeleteHi Wendy! How fun to hear from you! I just love it when people meet this way! Yes, my chicken is still on my shelf. In fact, I think you can see part of it in my newest blog photos. I hope you come back again, and leave an e-mail or blog address!
