** From Sweet to Sassy **

A BIG Thank-You to Ellie for awarding me this Happy 101 Sweet Friends Award! Anyone who reads her blog will surely know that she, too, is very much a Sweet Friend! Thanks for thinking of me, Ellie!

Ellie has also just inspired me to "attempt" to make an addendum to my Writing Schedule. As much as I LOVE blogging....writing my own, reading others', leaving comments, meeting newer bloggers, etc....I MUST cut out some of that blogging time and put it toward Writing Time! I hope to announce my decision sometime tomorrow.

P.S. - Posted on 10/18 @ 9:25pm
           Because of a couple of comments I've received already, I just want to make it clear that I am definitely NOT going to stop blogging! I'm just going to cut back on the amount of time I spend on it. I need to get a handle on my time management in general, in order to get all the things accomplished that I sincerely need and want to do. Hopefully, you won't even notice a change. But I'll know! I'll know that I am using all the hours in my day in a productive way....Starting tomorrow!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I really, truly prefer to not discuss politics and/or religion because we all know where those discussions lead. (You just knew there was a "but" coming, didn't you??) ...BUT, How many of you are sick and tired and disgusted and annoyed and angry at those local political commercials we're bombarded with?? WHEN did the ads stop telling us what GOOD a candidate would do for us....and turn into one that says what BAD stuff the opponent has already done, and will continue to do?? THAT'S the kind of junk that makes us apathetic. Why bother voting? Is every single politician a scoundrel of some sort? How are we to know?
I always think of those famous lines in the movie "Network" made in 1976. Just look how the following words are still true today....34 YEARS LATER:
 "I'M AS MAD AS HELL, AND I'M NOT GOING TO TAKE THIS ANYMORE! I want you to get up right now, sit up, go to your windows, open them and stick your head out and yell - 'I'm as mad as hell and I'm not going to take this anymore!' Things have got to change. But first, you've gotta get mad!... You've got to say, 'I'm as mad as hell, and I'm not going to take this anymore!' Then we'll figure out what to do about the depression and the inflation and the oil crisis. But first get up out of your chairs, open the window, stick your head out, and yell, and say it......"  (Spoken by Howard Beale, portrayed by Peter Finch)
I leave you with the following quotes. All said by the remarkable, extraordinary, the genius...Mark Twain.
"Loyalty to the country always. Loyalty to the government when it deserves it."
"We have the best government that money can buy."
"Reader, suppose you were an idiot. And suppose you were a member of Congress. But I repeat myself."
  1. Becky: please consider cutting down your blogging time but not taking a break! a lot of bloggers are taking brakes for many reasons -it is only fare and necessary I know, but you are the spark on my bloggosphere! once a week should be fine to keep us posted ;)
  2. I'm counting the days down until the November election is over. Ugh!! Most people say they hate the negative ads but the news says we like them. Who knew lol.
  3. I was just thinking about this! If I'm not sure about two candidates, I will vote against the one who launched the most negative campaign. I don't want to elect people who are low like that, and that's low. Also, if they call and leave recorded campaign messages on my answering machine, that also tips my vote!
  4. Oh how I love Mark Twain. Did you know that he is the most quoted person ever?!?! I guess that means he talked a lot.
  5. Hi Becky,
    I have been thinking about what you said about cutting down on blogging time. I hope you will consider what OJ suggested. You bring a lot of people together, and give valuable information for the writing community. I almost see that as part of your ministry, if you want to call it that.
    Believe me, I know how much time blogging takes. I spend 3 hours every morning on mine (plus a bit of catching up on FB and emails are also in there). I understand that we have to put our energy into where we are making some money. (I am pulling back a bit on computer time and am working on my crafts/sewing so I can start selling my stuff. Now that I have a blog following, perhaps somebody will buy it!)
    Still, we would miss you terribly if you stopped all together. And, your blog is such a great platform for your book and your other projects. I am looking forward to what your plans are.
    Take care and God bless!
  6. Oh Becky - good luck for making the right decision. It's hard. I'll say a little prayer for you.
    We would all miss you, but you have to do what's best for you.
  7. Becky,
    You are so right about the turn-off effect of negative political ads. And your reference to the film "Network" is spot on. The film was uncannily prophetic in its depiction of a society dominated by corporate power, which is to say, nascent fascism. Unfortunately today's "Mad as Hell" group -- the Tea Partiers -- have confused their message, becoming fixated on the incidental fact that today's most prominent Wall St. puppet happens to be black. You may or may not agree.
  8. Becky, I can thoroughly understand needing to cut back on blogging. You must act on your priorities, and your writing must take precedence. Still, I hope you write to us once, twice a week. I can't find time to write daily either, so I understand. I agree about the politicians, and I absolutely love Mark Twain.
    Take care.
  10. The blogger's dilemma: time management! I've been trying to figure it out, too. *sigh* Interesting that I've been hearing the same concern from so many others. Lack of time to "do it all" seems to be the biggest stumbling block. I guess we each need to find a balance that works. I've no doubt you'll find yours, or keep working at it until you do! :D
  11. I guess I should be grateful we don't have cable, and our reception with an antenna is lousy.
    I haven't seen ONE campaign ad - guess I'll have to read about the candidates and make up my own mind, instead of listening to the crap in the commercials.
  12. You deserved your award, Becky!
    To anyone else reading my comments (and because I started the whole cutting back on blogging time thing) Becky isn't going to stop blogging altogether (please don't Becky) she is just making an effort to ensure that her writing receives just as much time and devotion as her blog. It is very easy to spend hours blogging and then find you've not achieved much writing!
  13. Hi again Becky, I'm catching up on my blog-hopping after my trip to VA, where I did very little in the blogosphere (actually scheduled my own posts ahead of time). This post of yours fills me with comments! First, re the blogging, boy-oh-boy, it can take you over, right? When I entered into it, I was committed to only one new post per week, and I write them when they come to me so that I always have a few "on deck." If you've dropped by my site lately, you'll see the Monday Reruns, which are simply that. Otherwise, I've got the Saturday excerpts. I was told, when I started this, that 3X a week gets the most traffic, but I refused to commit to that. Now, though, I've reached that frequency, but I'm not writing something fresh 3X a week. (I also can't claim that it's increased my traffic. Who knows???)
    Re the ads, you are so right! Invariably, Candidate X's ad is ALL ABOUT Candidate Y, and vice versa. WTF? Who knew that Network monologue could have such a shelf life? We should ALL be mad as hell! My concern is that people don't know what to do with the anger...
  14. Hi Becky - Boy, did you ever hit a raw spot! Blogging is both a joy and a curse. I'm amazed by the talented and generous people (like yourself) that blogging has brought into my life. But working a blog is a time sucker, not just writing it, but keeping up with all the other blog reading. (I've spent about 3 hours today just reading blogs...now it is too late to do any writing. *sigh*). I'll be cutting back, too, one way or another. If you figure out a way to balance it all, please share!
I'm still getting quite a few spam comments that are Anonymous, so I'm trying "User with Google Accounts." If anyone tries to comment that I know, and it won't let you, send me an email, okay? Thanks so much.
