I've seen lots of blog post titles today about Halloween...and on that subject.. I got nothin'! So, my post is about...Guess what? Writerly things!
~~~
I have another idea concerning bookmarks, but I won't post about it this time until it's more than just an idea. ☺
Right now I'm somewhat overwhelmed with all the marketing information that's out there. I've begun to not only "Save" info in my documents, but also print lots of pages. (I'm old-fashioned that way. I need actual paper and print sometimes!) Especially with all this info. I have a 3-ring binder now so I can keep it all in an orderly fashion.
I shared some of my newly found information on my October 9th blog post, when I wrote about Sandra Beckwith's fantastic site, Build Book Buzz. If you're a writer and haven't signed up yet for her newsletter, you're really missing a lot.
Speaking of newsletters, I received Publishing Syndicate's newsletter this morning. I've included the link because it has a wonderful interview with Teri Rizvi, founder of Erma Bombeck's Writers' Workshop. The workshop is held every other year, and 2014 is one of THE years! I've promised myself that I'm going to be able to attend this one...
The writing competition (held every year) opens on January 6, 2014, which is my birthday! ... Hmmm, maybe that will be my good luck charm! One of my local writing buddies, Donna Volkenannt won FIRST PLACE earlier this year! (I don't remember if it was in the Humor or Human Interest category, but it was very funny!)
* Welcome to my newest follower Amanda Bretz. I hope you'll stop by often and always enjoy what you read and see! *
That's it for now. I'm ending with an inspiring quote...
"There are people who put their dreams in a little box and
say, 'Yes, I've got dreams, of course I've got dreams.' Then they put the box
away and bring it out once in a while to look in it, and yep, they're still
there. These are great dreams, but they never even get out of the box. It takes
an uncommon amount of guts to put your dreams on the line, to hold them up and
say, 'How good or how bad am I?' That's where courage comes in.” -- Erma Bombeck
I love that quote!!!
ReplyDeleteHi Beth! Thank you for stopping by, and I'm glad you love the quote. It IS a good one, isn't it? :)
DeleteLove that Bombeck quote! xoxoxo
ReplyDeleteHello dear Sheila! How fun to "see" you here! So glad the Erma quote is loved! xoxo back to you.
DeleteHave you seen the printable maganet sheets? Why not make your own with a copy of your book cover...put that refrigerator magnet where everyone can NOT forgot to get a copy of your book to read.
ReplyDeleteYou know, I think I may have seen them, but had forgotten.....Are they expensive, though? That IS a great idea!! Thanks, Claudia!
DeleteGorgeous quote.
ReplyDeleteHalloween is done and dusted here (and wasn't really done at all, so it didn't need much dusting).
Now Christmas looms....
Hey EC! I don't think I've heard that term before "done and dusted." I like it!
DeleteIt's so hard for me to picture you having Christmas in hot weather, although I know MANY people have those kinds of temps, even in the US. I've just always been a cold winter gal.
Far too many of our Christmas traditions are based on a cooler Christmas. Starting with the food which is far too heavy for a hot day, and continuing with the cards, decorations, wrapping paper - which feature snow, ice and reindeer. Sigh.
DeleteWell, that's just kooky, isn't it?? I'll send ya some Santa in the tropics wrapping paper if I can find some! LOL
DeleteGreat quote. Have a tremendous Thursday and Happy Halloween to all your family. Hope it is a spectacularly good spooky one.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes Molly
Hello Molly The Wally!! Thanks so much, and I wish you the same...! :)
DeleteI love the quote! I need to check out Sandra Beckwith's site, I've never heard of her. Thanks for giving me a little shout out on your blog :)
ReplyDeleteHey Amanda! Thank you, and yes isn't that a great quote? Please do check out Sandra's site. I bet you'll be in overload, too, like I was.....and still am! :)
DeleteAnd you are very welcome for the shout-out!
Love the quote Becky!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing and Happy Halloween!
Hi Patricia! So good to see your face here again! :) I'm glad you, too, love the quote. And Happy Halloween to you, too!
DeleteThanks for the shout-out, Becky. The Erma conference was an amazing adventure, and I love the quote.
ReplyDeleteHi Donna! You're very welcome! I REALLY want to attend the conference this year. I'm saving my dimes and nickels! :)
DeleteAnd glad you love the quote, too!
I already checked out those sites this morning. Guess I'm psychic, huh?
ReplyDeleteWell Val.....you've been called a lot of things...not sure I've heard "psychic," yet, though! ROTFL.....(I'm cracking myself up here.....!)
DeleteLove the quote! And I always loved Erma!
ReplyDeleteHi Sandy!! Thanks! All my pals would almost HAVE to love Erma, to be my pals, right??!! :)
DeleteI agree with Erma!
ReplyDelete=)
Good person to agree with, Sue! :)
DeleteLoved that quote and the amount of truth in it. I'm too old now to pursue many dreams so they stay in the box.
ReplyDeleteNice to find another Capricorn....my birthday 2 January way back in the dark ages.
Hi Mimsie! I say, "you're never too old!" And happy to know you're a Capricorn, too!! Hopefully, I'll remember to send you birthday wishes. Those first few days after Christmas and the New Year are kind of inconvenient for birthdays, aren't they?
DeleteYour quote resonates with me, the coward. That's why i cling to brave ones like you who pursue their dreams with passion. For now, I'm your cheerleader. Yay Becky!!!
ReplyDeleteOh, Myrna! You know I love ya! I can always use your cheering me on, but I AM going to start giving you gentle pushes! :)
DeleteSounds like marketing is going to keep you busy! BTW, love your new profile picture...so cute!
Hey, Bec, just stopping in to say hi and that I miss ya. I'll check out your links and best of luck organizing all that you are learning. I like to print stuff out too. I just read it better and catch more mistakes.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Kathy M.
I love that quote! Something to really think about and apply for sure. :) Hope you have a wonderful week!
ReplyDeleteLove that quote, Becky! And thanks for all the "writerly" information.
ReplyDeleteHi Becky, thanks for stopping by. I've actually lived in Kuwait for nearly 19 years now. Who would've thought! ??? My husband was born and raised here. We met in New Orleans on a blind date 21 years ago and the rest, as they say ....
ReplyDeleteMake that dream come true ... the writer's workshop is waiting for you! :)
Best wishes, tammy
Well now, seeing's as how you popped by my blog to say howdy and to call me a kook, I reckon the least I could do was return the favor.
ReplyDeleteKook.
Howdy back atcha. Lots of great info here. I LOVE Erma. Go for that contest. Sounds like all kinda good karma for you.
The quote is a great one - it does take guts to get your dream out there!
