* NOSTALGIC SUNDAY *

It's Time for Another Nostalgic Sunday

I can't believe it's Sunday already...

~~~
I'm feeling nostalgic today about music from another era, the 1960s.
One song I love, in particular, is "Moon River" by Andy Williams. It's one of those songs that just does something to me whenever I hear it. I also like it as an instrumental, but only Mr. Williams can sing it for me!
1960s performance
AND
1970s performance
Do you have a preference between the two??
What about you? Do you have favorite songs from the 1960s?
P.S. I forgot to welcome my three new followers! - Lee, Delores, and Jennifer.  I hope you'll stop by often and always enjoy what you read and see. Thank you!
* THIS ONE'S FOR YOU - - MR. STEPHEN T *
I don't spend much time on Facebook, since I really can't afford to waste any time...and who can?...and I really don't even like Facebook... But it does come in handy once in a while......as in today.
This T-shirt made me literally laugh out loud! (Is there an LOL for that, as in LLOL?)
Have a wonderful Tuesday, just like Floyd would!
* A NOSTALGIC SUNDAY ~ AND A BLOG BREAK *
It's Time for Another Nostalgic Sunday
In keeping with my beloved Andy Griffith Show characters,
 I'm displaying two photos from one of my favorite episodes,
"The Shoplifters," from 1964.
Andy discovered who the shoplifter was,
 (who had all kinds of jewelry and other valuables hidden underneath her coat)
when he accidentally bumped into the sweet little old lady inside the store.
When asked how he knew she was the thief,
Andy replied in his usual folksy manner,
"Little old ladies ought never to clank."
Even though Nostalgic Sundays are one of my favorite posts to write, I just haven't been able to keep up with them on a regular basis. In fact, I haven't been able to keep up with much of anything pertaining to blogging, as I've bemoaned quite a few times lately. SO, after much consideration, I've decided to take a much-needed social media break from blogs, Facebook, and Twitter. (unless I've already committed to hosting a guest here, or being the guest on another blog.)
As I've also said before, I really need to spend a lot more time writing my sequel, plus getting out into the world and doing more promoting and marketing of my memoir, instead of focusing mostly online.
I'm also going to work on my concentration abilities. I'm tired of being so forgetful and disorganized. That's just not who I am, or at least who I used to be, and I refuse to give up and chalk it up to "being too busy" to keep track of things.
My contact information is listed in my profile. I can be reached by e-mail and/or through my website, and I truly hope to hear from you. I'm not sure how long this break will last, but I expect a month or more.
I must leave you with some of my favorite quotes. I hope they inspire you. Every time I read them, it's like reading them again for the first time.
* NOSTALGIC SUNDAY *
It's Time for Another Nostalgic Sunday
It's been a LONG time since I've posted a Nostalgic Sunday. There's no particular reason, really....I've just been so busy......
Carrying boxes from one room to another
Unpacking & putting things away
Writing
Doing some laundry
Walking Vern
Writing
Eating
Walking Vern
Sleeping
Writing
The Ronald and I worked in the living room a lot today and it really is beginning to look like home! (Our son, Mark, came over and helped a lot, too!)
What about this post makes it a "Nostalgic Sunday" post?....
Well..since we don't have TV yet, I've been watching some Andy Griffith Show DVDs.
I've been feeling very nostalgic because I've been going through old pictures to include in my memoir.
And....below is a picture of the wall plaque I mentioned on April 13th.
I wanted y'all to see that I did cross out "Begins" and wrote "Continues!" ...and that makes me feel nostalgic.
I promise I'll post pictures when boxes aren't overtaking rooms!
* HELP - BLOGGER NOT UPDATING MY POSTS *
If you happen upon this particular blog post, please leave a comment if you have any suggestions about my Blogger Roll List problem.
Yesterday while visiting other bloggers, I noticed that the ones who list mine on their Blog Roll, all showed my latest blog post as "A Plethora of Writing Contests" from March 13th. BUT, since that time, I've posted four more new posts: March 14th, 15th, 17th, and 19th.
I haven't made any changes to anything, other than my profile photo. I even put the previous one back on, just in case it had anything to do with it, which it did not.
Obviously this is not really a problem, in the big scheme of things, but it sure is annoying. When readers see that a blog hasn't had a new post in quite a while and/or since they last visited it, they're most likely to skip right past it.
One other thought. If you presently have my blog listed on your Blog Roll and it still shows March 13th as the most recent post, please remove it from your list and then put it back on. Maybe that will update it. Please let me know the outcome!
* NOTE: March 21, 11:00pm  I deleted that blog post from March 13, hoping it might make blog rolls show the current post....but that didn't work as far as I can tell. Oh well...I'm going to quit thinking about it.
Anyone have any ideas?
Also, I decided it was time to change my template and background! It's been a long time...and I kind of like my new look! *
In the meantime, I'll be listening to some great music, or half-watching, half-listening to Andy Griffith reruns, as I continue to sort and pack household items.....getting ready for our move.
* Nostalgic Sunday *
It's Time for Another Nostalgic Sunday
I didn't realize it had been such a long time since I last posted a Nostalgic Sunday, but it looks like it was July 22nd. (Time to get back into my routine again.)
Since it's almost October, let's talk about purchasing Christmas cards!
A couple of years ago I somehow stumbled upon the Bodleian Library at the University of Oxford, in Jolly Old England! Yes, it's THAT Oxford University! The library sells truly unique items and two of my favorites are their Christmas cards and wrapping paper. That first year I wasn't aware of the store until really close to Christmas, but the sales staff is so competent and good to their customers that I received my cards in time. The design below is what I bought that first year.
Jolly Girls Christmas cards. Aren't they adorable?
Last year, I ordered much earlier and bought three designs of cards and two designs of wrapping paper. All of the items are made of such quality, heavy-weight material.
Last year, besides Jolly Girls, I bought this design and one other.
This is one of the wrapping paper designs. It comes folded, so it's easy to ship and it's such good quality.
Also: All profits from your purchases help fund the conservation, collection and care of the Libraries' important papers and manuscripts.
I honestly don't remember how much my total was, including shipping, but I didn't think it was that bad, considering everything! Please check out their site and browse their online store. And if you have any questions, just e-mail Wendy at sales@bodleian.ox.ac.uk. Tell her "Becky sent me!" (Wendy or other staff members can calculate the cost in American dollars, of course!)
Since this is Nostalgic Sunday and I'm writing about Christmas, I must take a moment to mention how sad I was to hear that Andy Williams passed away last week. When I was growing up, I watched his TV show every week, bought a couple of his record albums, especially the Christmas ones, and his family Christmas show was by far my favorite all year.
So, both of my favorite "Andys" are gone now: Andy Williams, and of course, Andy Griffith. But, how fortunate we are to have them on film, and vinyl, and tape, and CDs, etc. They will  never really leave us.
* Special Edition - Andy Griffith *
A Special Edition ~~ Nostalgic Tuesday
Actor Andy Griffith dead at 86
I was saddened to hear today of Andy Griffith's death. As regular readers of my blog know, I've been posting Nostalgic Sundays for quite some time and I always use the above picture for those posts.
I grew up in the 1950s & 60s, and spent some time watching TV. The folks of Mayberry were like my own family and I grew up right along with Opie. Below is part of the post I wrote for my very first Nostalgic Sunday on June 26, 2011:
I'm a nostalgic gal. I love old TV shows like The Andy Griffith Show (only the B&W episodes, ya know!) I'm particularly drawn to the lovely citizens of Mayberry because this fictional town reminds me so much of the real-life hometown of my parents and grandparents: Greenfield, Iowa.
When I was a little girl we went to Greenfield every summer for vacation. It was a magical time. The late 1950s, life was slow and easy, we young kids could walk or ride bikes all over town. I have such fabulous memories of those days, some of which will be included in my memoir.
My grandpa was deputy of Greenfield for a few years, either before I was born or too young to remember. I always thought he'd been the sheriff, so I'd compare him to Andy Griffith when I told stories about him. Imagine my surprise when I realized he was the Barney of the police department, not the Andy! (But grandpa was really nothing like Barney, in his appearance or behavior!)
Thank you Andy, for who you were as a man, and who you were as Andy Taylor. I loved you both.
** July 4th Note: TV Land is having an Andy Griffith marathon today, tomorrow, and Friday. And also this weekend, I think. I came across it accidentally when I turned on the TV this morning, went to TV Land hoping to see something about it. The TV schedule still showed I Love Lucy and Bonanza, etc., but Andy was being shown. Here is the link for the schedule: http://www.tvland.com/tv-schedule/andy-griffith-show
"When a man carries a gun all the time, the respect he thinks he's getting might really be fear. So I don't carry a gun because I don't want the people of Mayberry to fear a gun. I'd rather they respect me." -- Andy Griffith
* Nostalgic Sundays *
Time for Another Nostalgic Sunday
I took a break this past week from everything that was stressing me out and it truly did me a world of good. I even stayed away from my laptop most of the time, so I wouldn't be tempted to start my sometimes-addictive-blog-hopping. When I took a good look at myself and my life, I finally saw what was mentally paralyzing me, and I said, "No more!"
I'm not going to quit blogging, but I'll be sticking to a strict schedule, as with a few other things. Okay, enough of that..... It's time for another Nostalgic Sunday!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~      ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~      ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I just keep having those Cosmic Connections, those Twilight Zoney Moments.....
On February 18, I posted a poem I'd written which mentioned prop planes
On February 19, I wrote about prop planes again, and my dad, and Parks College.
I haven't been consciously thinking about that lately, but yesterday in one of those round-about ways, I somehow landed (Ha! Get it?!) on Ebay and in an aeronautical memorabilia section. I bought what I think is an amazing item, for an amazingly low price! I tried posting a couple of pictures of it, copyed from the Seller's page, but they didn't work. You'll just have to wait until I receive it to see photos. (And no, it's nothing with my dad's name on it, etc. Wouldn't THAT be awesome?!)

So, until then.....I leave you with two airplane photos I found on Google.

Well, would you look at that?? It's my Nostalgic family.....in an airplane!

I wonder if they were looking at the Flying Nun, too!?

~~~~~~~~
Have a fabulous, blissful week! I intend to!
Welcome to my newest followers, Rae and Shirley. I hope you'll stop by often and always enjoy what you read and see. Thank you!
* Nostalgic Sundays *
It's time for another Nostalgic Sunday.
This time of year when it begins to be a bit cooler and the sun sets earlier, I get in the mood for good, old-fashioned comfort food. (which is what Aunt Bee prepared every day, I think!) On Friday, I wrote about making meatloaf for Lynn's blog so what did I do today? Bought fresh ground meat! I'll be whipping up a meatloaf dinner today, complete with baked potatoes, and various veggies.
I also have a new chili recipe I'll make soon....in my crock pot. And I have a few casserole recipes to make and freeze for later. Yummy goodness! Mmmm. Is your mouth watering? Mine sure is.
I also have to mention the fabulous Andy Griffith. During my quick lunch today, the TV was on and I came across the movie: No Time for Sergeants. I only watched for about ten minutes, but during that short period of time, I laughed out loud at his backwoods, naive ways, especially when he described trying to take the reading test. There's no way I could explain it and do it justice, you'll just have to watch the movie sometime.
Also, Welcome to my newest follower, Jennifer Shirk. I hope you'll stop by often and always enjoy what you read and see! Thank you!
Andy Taylor: Opie! Time to come in, son.
Opie Taylor: Aw Pa, just a little while longer... please?
Andy Taylor: Well, OK.
[to Barney]
Andy Taylor: Daylight's precious when you're a youngin'
Today I thought of trying to begin another weekly post and call it Nostalgic Sundays. I'm not really sure what I'll post or if I can even come up with something every Sunday, but I'm going to try. And if any readers decide to post something nostalgic on their blogs on Sundays, let me know and I'll be sure to stop by!
That's it for this Sunday, and surprisingly I've already thought of topics for at least two more Sundays.
