* 3 YEARS AGO THIS MONTH & A SPECIAL BOOK PRICE *

Can it possibly be THREE years since I finally completed and published my memoir??
Publication date: November 6, 2013.

Sometimes I still can't believe I actually did it, but I had lots of help.

+ In honor of my deceased father, I'm offering a print copy of my memoir at a discounted price through the end of December 2016. Since Amazon and Barnes & Noble's online store already sell it for $12.95 plus shipping, if you buy it directly from me I'll not only match their price, but will also pay the shipping! (In USA only. Anywhere outside of the USA, I'll have to charge shipping.)

My website http://www.beckypovich.com/ has always offered it at $18.14, which includes Missouri tax and shipping. But I'll take care of the tax, too, for this special offer.

So, that means it's only $12.95 each when shipped within the USA!
I'll also be happy to sign them individually, if requested.

 MY MEMOIR WOULD MAKE A
FANTASTIC CHRISTMAS GIFT!

* If you are interested in ordering, please e-mail me or leave a comment and I'll get right back to you! * THANK YOU!

As many Amazon reviews point out, this is a great read,
no matter your age or gender -

"...I often found myself putting Povich's book down while I stopped in my cerebral rest stop to pursue my own past, and marvel at the similarities and differences. This is not a book through which one races - savor the nuances and differences, as one savors a multi-course banquet...Be sure to have your favorite comfort drink by your side - tea, coffee, lemonade - as this is as much a conversation with Becky Povich sharing her side of life, as it is a reminiscence oasis." - John Busbee, writer, actor, director, also the producer and host of "The Culture Buzz" on KFMG 98.9 FM, Des Moines, Iowa.

 "Charming!" - A.E. Hotchner, St Louis' own bestselling author.

"Becky Povich's memoir, From Pigtails to Chin Hairs, is a largely affectionate account of life's ups and downs from a writer who learned to find her voice -- and her bliss." - Teri Rizvi, founder of the Erma Bombeck Writers' Workshop at the University of Dayton.

I'LL ALSO BE HAPPY TO GIFT WRAP EACH BOOK! WHERE ELSE CAN YOU RECEIVE SUCH PERSONAL SERVICE, AND WITH A SMILE?  J

+ So, what does my deceased father have to do with a special price on my memoir? Because tomorrow, November 30th, is the anniversary of his death in 2002, and we were able to reconnect in a good way before he died. A chapter about him, "Thoughts on Love & Forgiveness" is included in Chicken Soup for the Soul: Divorce & Recovery.

And also, the following is on Page ii of my memoir:

“If it hadn’t been for my father, both literally and figuratively, this memoir would never have been written.”

* * AND THE WINNER IS........* *

Hi Everyone! As promised, today is the day to announce the winner of the Barnes & Noble $10.00 gift card. I've decided to have giveaways much more often now because:

                                             1) I think they're fun!
                                             2) Hey, it's spring!
                                             3) To give is better than to receive!

Thanks to everyone who left comments on my March 10th post. Your names were all thrown into a hat, and voila'.....the winner is......

Linda O'Connell!

Linda, please let me know if you'd like to meet for coffee or lunch and get your card.

* BARNES & NOBLE GIFT CARD GIVEAWAY *

Don't forget that tomorrow, Wednesday March 16, is the deadline to leave a comment on my blog post of March 10, in order to be in the drawing for the gift card.

Again, I know that a $10 card won't buy much of anything at B&N,
but at least it can help a little! It can be used in a store or online.
I'll announce the winner on Thursday, March 17.

This is me laughing, and having a great time at B&N
soon after my memoir came out in November 2013.

This is me looking drunk at B&N
soon after my memoir came out in November 2013.
(I have no idea what I was doing or talking about.
Probably just acting goofy!)

* Note: My memoir can be purchased at BN.com, but they don't carry it in their stores.
If people ask for it, they'll say they can order it. That was so disappointing at first because when I worked there, I dreamed about seeing my memoir on their shelves. I imagined it being right next to Colin Powell in the biography/memoir area. J

* Live from Missouri...It's Saturday Night *

Hello All ~  I had another busy, exhausting day, but all in a good way. Tomorrow, I will be posting a new Nostalgic Sunday, so please stop back sometime on or after November 24th.

P.S. I just found out today from a fellow writer that my memoir is also on the Barnes & Noble website! (Thank you, C.R.) I was shocked because I thought that by self-publishing, and especially with an Amazon company, they would not accept my book. Things have definitely changed over the past couple of years.

This is part of a vintage-looking, 3-D wall plaque from my office. I've had it for quite a few years and I just love it. I don't remember where I purchased it.....but probably Home Goods or Hobby Lobby. I'm thinking about having it as part of the header on my website. It did have a photo of a wooden desktop and cup of coffee, but I removed it, with the intention of having something unique to me.

* Nostalgic Sundays *

Time for Another Nostalgic Sunday
Since this is the first Sunday after Thanksgiving and the TV weather folks say we may get a few snow flurries today, I'm definitely feeling Christmasy!

Let's take a look at some Christmases past:

I bought this hat Christmas 2008
 when I worked at Barnes & Noble during the holidays.
I sewed the red ribbon on it to tie under my neck,
because it wouldn't stay on.
I couldn't wear it very long at work,
 though, because my head would get too hot!

~~~~~~~
This goes way back...to Christmas 1977.
That's me on the left and my sister Jo Ann on the right.
I don't know if I've mentioned that she was an artist;
pencil, chalk, oil paintings, sculpture, & wood carving.
This was taken at our mother's apartment in St. Louis.
Jo Ann made the sculpture on her left...probably way back
when she was in college and gave it to mom soon after.
I also lived in St. Louis then, but Jo Ann moved to
 Florida when I was in high school. When she came home for
Christmas, I always hoped she'd get snowed in
and wouldn't be able to fly home until a few days later!
We weren't able to see each other very often for many years,
due to the expense of flying.
* All through December I'll continue to post photos
 of Christmases Past on my Nostalgic Sundays. *
Welcome to my newest follower, Linda Young. I hope you'll stop by often and always enjoy what you read and see! Thank you!
* Dreams - Real and Otherwise *
Dreams. That one word conjures up so many images. Those real dreams we have when we sleep. Those real dreams we have in our waking hours....those dreams of success and accomplishments and triumphs.
Anyone who's been reading my blog for awhile knows about my dream of being a best-selling author. I've been talking about, and writing, my memoir for way too long. This is my year. All I have to do is finish it. I've already got the publisher. In fact, she has a sample of my book cover that I get to see this Tuesday! I'm positive that by seeing it, I will catapult myself into "awesome writer mode" and complete it before the end of March! (my new deadline!)
That particular dream is so close to becoming true I can see it. I was at Barnes & Noble the other evening and grabbed another book by Cynthia Kaplan, which was located in the Biography & Memoir section. While I was there, it occurred to me to stroll down the aisle to the place where MY book would be shelved. Since they're placed in alphabetical order by the author's last name, I saw that in that particular store, my book would be right next to one of Colin Powell's. Not a bad place to be, I don't think!
I've said it before and I'll say it again, "Look out world! Here I come!"
"The world needs dreamers and the world needs doers. But above all, the world needs dreamers who do." ~Sarah Ban Breathnach, Simple Abundance: A Daybook of Comfort and Joy, 1996
