* MY COUNTDOWN TO THANKSGIVING - DAY 8 *

* Countdown to Thanksgiving *

Wow, tomorrow is Thanksgiving! How did the fourth Thursday in November arrive so fast?!

I just love these adorable pilgrim salt & pepper shakers!
They're from the grocery store, Publix, which is in the South.
My sister, Marian, sent them to me as a little gift in 2010.

Both of these photos are a bit blurry.
I'll have to take new pictures,
just as soon as I dig through more boxes! J

I was a bit melancholy the first couple of years we didn't have all of our grown kids and grandkids over for our Thanksgiving get-together. We always had our dinner the Saturday before most actual holidays, because it just made it so much better for them. No pressure and/or guilt about trying to make it to X number of houses, and X number of dinners....but this year, I am feeling much happier about going to one of their homes tomorrow! All I'm bringing is a couple of bottles of wine!

One of my favorite Thanksgiving/Christmas movies:
Miracle on 34th Street...the original, in black and white.

Fred: That baseball player sure looks like a giant to me.

Susan: Sometimes people grow very large, but that's abnormal.

Fred: I'll bet your mother told you that, too.

* MY COUNTDOWN TO THANKSGIVING - DAY 5 *

* Countdown to Thanksgiving *

Speaking of thankfulness, I was very thankful to have the day off today...and my sweet Vern allowed me to sleep realllllyyyyyy late! (after his one-quick-go-outside-come-back-in-trip at 6:00am)

Then I spent a mostly lazy afternoon and evening, watching some football on TV, did a couple of loads of laundry and folded towels that were still in a basket from ___ days ago! (How grateful I am to have those clothes and towels, and electricity to clean/dry them.)

I also got a few groceries (of which I'm so appreciative)... lunch type snacks to take to work, and a small pork roast, red potatoes, and frozen corn and peas. My supper will be all ready for me when I get home from work tomorrow...because it will cook in the crockpot most of the day. Yum! I can hardly wait to get back home tomorrow!  J

And speaking of food, combined with my countdown to Thanksgiving.....below is one of my newest sets of Salt & Pepper shakers which I purchased at a nearby Kirkland's.

A turkey in a roaster

Take the turkey out of the roaster,
 and voila' ...
the turkey is the Pepper
and the roaster is the Salt!

These are almost as small as they look. Each piece is about 2-1/2" wide. I think they're just so cute! (The least expensive items always bring me joy.)
 ~~~
Oh, I almost forgot to mention that one of my favorite "weather events" happened yesterday....snow flurries! It was so pretty coming down and obviously didn't stick since our weather has been fairly warm.
A Dog and a Cat Go Into a Kitchen...
On Sunday, August 11th, I posted pictures of a darling set of S&P Shakers a miniature teapot and tea cup. A very good friend gave them to me as a house warming gift. The same day she gave those to me, she also gave me my (belated!) birthday gift: a Hallmark gift book, Humor for Boomers, Older and Wiser, (and Funnier!) It's full of humorous sayings and cartoons. The one below is one of my favorites!
Have a wonderful Sunday and blissful last week in August!
* NOSTALGIC SUNDAY *
It's Time for Another Nostalgic Sunday
It's another busy weekend at home. I'm still going through a ton of boxes, baskets, and stacks of writerly/office kind of stuff. So much paper! Before we moved, I know I went through some of the very same boxes and baskets and got rid of a lot. Now that I'm trying to make everything "fit" into the guest room/home office, I'm throwing out even more. Thank goodness I recycle!
What does that have to do with nostalgia? Some old photos are included in some of those boxes. I finally told myself I will never get this room finished if I stop and look at every one. So I skim through them and toss them all into one big box. There will be time for them later.
~~~

More instances of nostalgia.

These S&P shakers belonged to my paternal grandma. She had quite a large collection by the time she passed away many years ago. She allowed us granddaughters and other relatives to choose some at the last reunion we had in 1986. (Because of that, I began to start my own collection. I think I have about 10 or 15 pair. Nothing like my grandma had! They really are great to collect, too, because they're usually very inexpensive and don't take up a lot of space.) One of my cousins recently moved across the country and downsized considerably. She generously asked if I'd like to have the pair above of Nipper, the RCA dog and I said SURE!
Remember Nipper? I mentioned him in a blog I wrote about Vern on 10/15/2011. http://beckypovich.blogspot.com/search?q=RCA&max-results=20&by-date=true

Most of you know how much I love tea cups and tea pots. These are adorable S&P shakers! I received them yesterday from a very good and OLD friend of mine...(since grade school!) She gave them to me as a house warming gift. Wasn't that sweet? I just love them!

And as I'm decluttering this room today, I'm also listening to the Oldies radio station. Ahhhh....memories...nostalgia...

I have other things to share but I'll wait until the next Nostalgic Sunday.

** Monday, August 12th: I've been playing around with my blog template, background, etc. After spending way too much time on it, I've "kind of" decided this ampersand one is okay...at least for now. I would like to know others' opinions. Honest ones! You can leave them in the comment section or e-mail me. (the address is on my profile page)

* Finding My Bliss *

This evening I needed a break from my usual activities of watching TV with The Ronald, blogging, e-mailing, and more recently trying to force a story out of my head that just wasn't happening. In fact, earlier this afternoon, I got a migraine headache, probably due to the stress I've been putting on myself. I decided it was time for a change in my routine, so here's what I did to reclaim my bliss.
Remember the beautiful flowers and "birthday cake" The Ronald gave me for my birthday on January 6th? I finally got around to baking that cake and he said it was delicious! (Don't worry, I'm sure I'll be having a slice or two.)

Then I took some pictures of a salt and pepper set I bought at Hobby Lobby last night. I "sort of" collect them, which means I don't have many. These just shouted at me to buy them and they were 50% off, so what could I do?! Just looking at them makes me smile from ear to ear.

Aren't they just adorable?? So cute and funny, and with beautiful spring colors! They remind me of cartoon characters from long ago.

And The Ronald and I played Scrabble this evening, which we haven't done in ages. I had all the weird letters: Q, Z, V, and Z. I trounced him, too, which hardly ever happens.☺

It was a very good evening, recapturing my bliss!
